Welcome from the Principal Welcome to the Framlingham College U10 and U13 Rugby Festival. I extend a warm welcome to all schools and supporting parents. Rugby goes from strength to strength here at the College and we are delighted to have so many players here today from so many schools, to share in our love for the game. The Festival today is to be enjoyed, first and foremost. I have no doubt that we will see some fantastic rugby, but as importantly, some great team spirit, mutual support and camaraderie. Sport has the magic to bring people together and I hope that today can be a celebration of exactly that. My thanks go to our Grounds staff for preparing the pitches and to Mr Nick Gandy, Director of Sport, for organising today’s event. Mr Gandy and our Head of Rugby, Mr Laurence Denvir, will be available throughout the day to answer any of your queries about the Festival or about Rugby at Framlingham College. Have a wonderful day and I look forward to meeting you. Our ‘360 Sports Intelligence’ Camera System The ‘360 Sports Intelligence’ system introduced at Framlingham College Senior School, with twelve cameras strategically located around the perimeter of its premier artificial pitch, allows for a genuine 360 degree viewing of matches and training sessions in HD. It is the first of its kind in the UK and, with no personnel required to man the system, it can be used to benefit Prep and Senior School pupils across a variety of different sports, most notably hockey, cricket and rugby. Most of the cameras are positioned end-on in order to provide a tactical view of the game. This helps teams and individuals in their post-match analysis, as well as during and after training sessions. The system also provides live video streaming during matches, which can be accessed instantaneously by coaching staff on the bench using an iPad, or during half-time team talks. For parents and supporters unable to make the match or the live stream, this ‘360 Sports Intelligence’ system automatically produces a highlights package which can be routinely screened in the Fowler Pavilion and shared across College platforms. This is a first for hockey anywhere in the world, so it is particularly exciting to think that Framlingham College parents and pupils of all ages can be the primary beneficiaries of such ground- breaking technology.
Our College sports professionals deliver coaching from Year 2 through to Year 13 providing a seamless pathway for progression. We have a through school ethos and believe the grass roots to be as important as the top end talent. Talent is early identified and able players at the Prep School are encouraged to represent the Senior School in a way no stand alone prep school can offer. Where every pupil creates their own story. With our ambitious learning culture, a focus on every individual and a breadth and blend of opportunities, we help every child to discover and develop their talents to create their own life-story. Our size, structure and ethos mean that our entire focus is on understanding, guiding and inspiring each child individually – so they can find their own voice, their confidence, self-belief and aspiration, discover their own talents, challenge themselves to achieve more than they thought possible and reach their full potential. There is no typical Framlinghamian, no singular path that we take: we are academics, actors, musicians, expeditioners, sports people, innovators, scientists, ruminators, decision makers, story tellers, teammates, artists, fun lovers, nurturers and thought provokers. Often we are many things within one. But, we are all individual with our own story. Scan the QR code to see our film, ‘Let’s See Who You Are’.
