PREAKNESS HILLS COUNTRY CLUB 2019 WOMEN’S GOLF PROGRAM Michael Docktor, PGA Michael Donato, PGA Kyle Nestor, PGA Adrianna Orlando
Dear Ladies, Welcome to the 2019 golf season at Preakness Hills. This booklet will serve as a reference guide to our golf program. Included will be a list of events, tournament guidelines, important club information, as well as a few additional items the Professional Staff wanted to include. Our women’s program is available to players of all golfing abilities. It’s been a pleasure seeing ladies go from participating in our Step into Golf Clinics, to playing in our 9 hole division, to competing in our 18 hole division. Keep in mind if you’re looking to only play 9 holes, but still want that competitive style, we do offer a 9 hole division that complements the same formats as our 18 hole tournaments. After organizing and running our women’s program for 3 years as an Assistant Golf Professional, I’m excited to do the same as your Head Golf Professional. I encourage each of you to utilize our amazing club as much as possible. Adrianna is excited for another season here at PHCC and is looking forward to being involved in the ladies program and ladies clinics. If any of you are looking for more one-on-one instruction, Adrianna is available for lessons Tuesday-Sunday. Feel free to call the pro shop to schedule time with her. My staff and I are here for your every golfing need whether it’s tournament information, golf instruction, or your looking to upgrade your golf equipment. My staff and I look forward to having everyone back and we’re excited about this year’s women’s golf program. I wish each of you the best of luck for the 2019 golf season. Sincerely, Michael Docktor PGA Head Golf Professional
Tuesday Morning Golf Our women’s golf program hosts a club tournament each Tuesday morning. If you are interested in playing either in the 18 hole or 9 hole tournaments, there will be tournament sign-up sheets posted in your locker room for the upcoming weeks. Please sign-up in advance or contact the Professional Shop if you’d like to join us for golf. In addition to our weekly events, we offer a ladies clinic on almost every Wednesday throughout the season. Those clinics will run from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Each week we will be focusing on a certain skill from putting, short game, bunkers, irons, woods, and full swing. Please look at your calendars for the exact dates! Tuesday morning golf will either begin with tee times at 8:00 and continuing every 10 minutes or will begin with an 8:30 or 9:00 shotgun start. Please take note of the starting time on each separate sign-up sheet. For those events that utilize tee times, players may request an early or later time depending on their personal schedule. The Professional Staff will try their best to accommodate all requests. In the interest of comradery and fairness, pairings will be made by the Professional Shop on Sunday afternoon by 5:00pm. The staff will then reach out to all those who signed up and inform them of their starting times via email. While we understand that emergencies arise, we ask that you give us as much advance notice as possible if you must cancel. Prior to beginning the round a member of the Professional Staff will go over the rules of the day, answer any questions and will handout tournament scorecards on the first tee. Those that are competing must have a registered golf course handicap. If you do not have one, or would like to link your handicap from another club to Preakness Hills, please see a member of the Professional Staff. It is the responsibility of the player to post her Equitable Stroke Control score to her handicap after each round. The Professional Staff is available to assist in that process. After the round, we will meet in the ballroom to have lunch and tabulate the scores for the day. A member of the Professional Staff will be available to answer any questions that arose during the round and to collect the attested scorecards. This is a great time to relax, unwind after your round and enjoy lunch with your fellow members.

Handicap Rules It is the responsibility of the player to enter her adjusted score after completing a round. To post a 9-hole score, the player must complete 7-12 holes. To post an 18-hole score, the player must complete at least 13 holes. Incomplete holes will be scored by using par + any handicap strokes that may fall on the hole. Any scores made while playing alone will not be acceptable for handicap purposes and must not be posted. Players must adjust each score using the USGA Equitable Stroke Control guidelines before posting. The handicap committee is responsible for all aspects of the USGA handicap system, including the computation of each member’s handicap index. The committee, in accordance with the rules of the USGA, will use its discretion in modifying the handicaps of members or guests who fail to post all scores, or for any other reason deemed justified by the committee. Locker Room Each of you has your own locker in our locker room. Upon leaving the locker room through the middle staircase you will notice many of our flyers, sign-up sheets, birdie tree and ringer board. Tournament sign-up: Throughout the season we will post the sign-up sheets for Tuesday golf up to three weeks in advance. For events that are designated with starting times, please make special note after your name if you have a preference to early or later starting times. The Professional staff will do its best to accommodate all requests. You are encouraged to sign-up for weeks in advance. Birdie Board: Our birdie board is a fun game that recognizes great scores on the course all season long. If you happen to make a birdie during your round, please take a moment to write your name, the date, and the hole you made a birdie on the tree. We will award all those great shots at our closing day tournament with a special prize. Please put those eagles on there too! There will be a par board for our 9 hole group. Ringer Board: This is another year long event that allows players to keep track of their best per hole round. After each round, players are encouraged to write their best gross and net score for each of the 18 holes on the course. From that point, as you play throughout the season, any time you’re able to better that score, erase you old score, and replace it with the new lower score. 9 Holers will have a separate board for each side. At our closing day tournament we will award a prize to the player with the lowest score. Tournament & Event Posters: As you know our club hosts many events during the season. To keep everyone informed we advertise in our newsletters, locker rooms and on our television screens in the clubhouse. Some of the items you may notice are our Ladies Member Guest, Ladies’ Night Out, Play For P.I.N.K and UJA Day.
On Course Guidelines Our goal is to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience on the course, no matter what their playing ability. Part of this enjoyment comes from a reasonable pace of play. Please take a moment to review these few helpful hints that will make this goal easier to attain. • Be ready to play at least 10 minutes prior to your tee time. • Try to eat something healthy before your round and drink plenty of fluids • Make sure you are prepared with your equipment, golf balls, etc. • Pay attention during your round and be prepared when it is your turn to hit. • Know what club you intend on hitting and the yardage remaining prior to your shot. If you are putting, take the time to read your putt prior to your turn, making sure not to interfere with the others in your group. • If you’re playing in a team competition and one of your teammates has recorded a score in which you cannot better, please pick up your ball and record the score you would have most likely made. • If you are playing in an individual event, please pick up your ball after your score has reached double par. Record that score along with an asterisk to denote not holing out. • Pay attention to your own pace of play. Know when you began your round. • If there are open holes in front of you and the group behind is waiting, invite them to play through. • If you are tired from walking, please contact the Professional Shop, we would be glad to bring a golf cart out for you to use anywhere on the course. Golf Instruction Our PGA Professional Staff is available for individual and group instruction throughout the season. We utilize the latest in technology and teaching methods to help you reach your goal, whatever it may be. You can be assured that each lesson will be conducted in a professional manner while also making you feel at ease allowing you to enjoy the game. We offer a multitude of clinics for ladies of all abilities. Our clinics will be on Wednesday’s throughout the season running from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Each week we will be focusing on a certain skill from putting, short game, bunkers, irons, woods, to full swing. We will have drill stations setup for each of those skills. Dates will be posted in the ladies locker room or online. We also will be offering a 2-day Women’s golf school three times throughout the season limited to 8 players per session. In these golf schools we will be not only be working on our golf swings but also educating everyone on the game of golf. More details, dates, and information will be posted in the ladies locker room. Nine Holes The great thing about golf is that it can be enjoyed by many golfers with different abilities. We certainly recognize this and want to encourage those who may be overwhelmed by the thought of 18 holes or perhaps do not have the time to play all 18 holes on Tuesdays. Every Tuesday there will be an opportunity for those who wish to play a competitive 9 hole tournament. Following golf, we’ll join the 18 hole group for lunch. If you are a beginner, we ask that you join us for our “Step Into Golf ” classes before graduating to the 9 hole events. It won’t take long for you to join the ranks. There will be a section on each weekly sign-up sheet for those who would like to play 9 holes.
