Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club Player Development Program 2021 Overview The Player Development Program (PDP) is a new offering for players aged U9-U18 seeking additional training that builds upon the 4 Corners Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) Model. The PDP will be a blended learning environment where players will train once per week within a cohort of PDP players with a focus on individual player development, rather than team development. PDP participants will also have access to an online learning environment where assignments will be made available for content related to mental wellbeing, nutrition, fitness, video analysis, technical and tactical awareness and where appropriate, OISC’s new Connect Program empowering players to seek playing experiences beyond club soccer. OISC will pilot this new program under the guidance of a dedicated Staff Coach, overseeing a selection of Age-Group Coaches and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for program delivery. The intent of the PDP offering is to provide opportunity for capable and motivated players seeking to accelerate their development in a wholistic fashion. *Please Note: The Video, Nutrition, and Mindfulness and Sport performance Elements of this program have not been finalized at time of registration. These offerings are not included in the pricing for the initial program offering. These programs will be offered as an optional purchase when finalized. The PDP program for all age groups can be divided into these main elements: Technical Video Tactical Analysis PDP Wellbeing Physical Social, Emotional & Psychological • Technical Improving proficiency in football actions such as passing, receiving, finishing, tackling, dribbling, crossing, set piece execution, aerial control and ball mastery. In younger age groups, the success of this program will be focused on more unopposed fundamentals needed to progress into opposed match play scenarios. In older age groups, players can expect to have a larger proportion of opposed match play scenarios to train proficiently for competition.
• Tactical Players will be exposed to different systems of play, how formations impact the approach to competition, dictating the tempo of play and the moments of the game with related principles of play. Players will make use of both on field instruction and online educational resources to understand increasingly more complex tactical concepts to increase their own positional and situational awareness within match play. • Physical Players will work with trained Performance Strength & Conditioning experts to maximize their use of various physical systems for match play. Players will have access to biological, evidence-based physical preparation programs which will enhance their flexibility, agility, strength, endurance, acceleration and velocity for soccer. In our younger age groups, players will have an emphasis on physical literacy and correct movement patterns. Our older age groups will see increasing attention on strength and conditioning for match play. Older players will also be exposed to and educated on the importance of work: rest and basic periodization concepts. • Social, Emotional & Psychological Soccer is both a social and a highly emotional sport to participate in. OISC is hyper-focused on creating an environment of fun for player development. As part of the PDP offering, players will be encouraged to hone their leadership skills in a team setting. Younger players will be exposed to high-level goal setting with a view on their ideal big picture. Older players will work towards setting more micro-level goals with a focus on action planning to make their goals into a reality. OISC hopes that all players graduating the PDP will be comfortable communicating with their peers in small and medium settings, displaying leadership and sportsmanship. • Wellbeing OISC’s commitment to player wellness is unwavering and as such has a designated curriculum within the PDP offering. Through the wellbeing portion of the PDP, players will be educated on self-awareness, mindful living and training, nutrition, building resilience in the face of adversity and how to identify and understand personal values to enhance development. A majority of the wellbeing portion of PDP programming will be offered in a virtual environment, with attention paid to player wellness throughout their programming with OISC – inside and outside the PDP. • Video Analysis Players will benefit from access to video footage captured in both competition and training. It is expected that players will be able to view and seek analysis support from coaches at least 3 times per season. The expectation is that these instances would come from both competition and training with particular emphasis on either tactical or technical aspects respectively. Older players will have access to the video footage and will have the option to begin creating their own highlight reel with PDP staff consultation, as part of the OISC Connect Program.
