COMMUNICATIONS | 8 LEAPS OF FAITH By Karen Angelo Communications Manager One of my favorite movies is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, primarily because I love the story of King Arthur, the Knights of the Roundtable, and the quest for the Holy Grail. My absolute favorite scene is when Indiana Jones must take a “leap of faith” to get from one side of the canyon to the other to get the Holy Grail. Indy must believe he can cross the invisible bridge even though he cannot see the path. Arthurian legend aside, the movie is an excellent rumination on the planning that goes into a quest, the leaps of faith taken along the way, and how “success” is defined at the quest’s end. We have all been on some kind of quest at some point in our lives and taken various leaps of faith to get where we need to be; this issue celebrates the various Holy Grails we have sought along the way. Our cover story is the first of a series of articles about two Estrella residents who are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Micki Jerry and Pat Matusiak are currently planning and training to hike the Arizona National Scenic Trail, which stretches 800(!) diverse miles across Arizona from Mexico to Utah. In their two-month trek, Micki and Pat will experience an average elevation gain of more than 113,000 feet as they hike across deserts, mountains, canyons, and forests. In one day, they may experience both snow-covered mountains and 90-degree heat. They take their first leap of faith in March of 2022, but you can begin reading more about their quest and these two dynamic women on page 12. Many of our homeowners take entirely different leaps of faith in Estrella as they consider changes and upgrades they would like to make to their homes. Getting ready to embark upon this particular quest? Turn to page 10! Design Review Coordinator Amy Brown provides some very helpful information on what is needed to begin the process of creating the Holy Grail of the perfect home. Perhaps no bigger leap of faith exists than the one where the parenting journey begins. While this quest lasts a lifetime, we do feature a very special pit-stop this month with our Photo Essay celebrating fathers on page 14. From the poems, essays, and drawings submitted by Estrella kids about why their dads are the best in the world, it would seem as if the Holy Grail of being an amazing father is firmly within their grasp.
