FIELD TRIPS Field trips are scheduled for every Wednesday unless delayed due to bad weather. Departures and arrivals will be from Sutton Elementary School. Your child must be present at 8:15 am. the day of a field trip, unless stated otherwise. Children will return to the school by 4 p.m. Information concerning the date and type of activity can be found at the end of this document. In the case where rain would cause the cancellation of the activity, an email will be sent out to every parent through Amilia. At this point, the children will spend their day at the school doing activities. Should the weather clear up in the afternoon, we will make our way to the park. MEDICATION If your child has to take medication during camp hours, we need a written document stating that a counselor or a director can administer the medication. Simply request one from your child’s counselor or the coordinator. Please note that the Town of Sutton is not responsible for the different side effects caused by the medication. YOUR CHILD’S MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION If your child uses his own means of transportation to go to the day camp (e.g. bicycle, skateboard, rollerblades, etc.), he or she will need to lock it up for the whole day since its use during camp hours is prohibited. FOOD ALLERGIES Food allergies are omnipresent in youth, which means that it is crucial to pay attention to this reality and to take action in order for the environment of the summer camp to be food allergen free. Through ingestion, touch and/or odor, allergenic foods (e.g. peanuts, nuts, eggs, milk, etc.) can lead to severe allergic reactions. In a matter of a few minutes only, facial swelling and breathing problems can occur. If a reaction is severe enough, an anaphylactic shock might happen. The child may have contracted throat or may be in shock and eventually fall unconscious. The consequences of such reactions can be fatal for the child. You will understand that to ensure the safety of these children, we must prevent allergic manifestations related to food. This is why we seek your collaboration in the preparation of snacks and dinners of your children. Do not include food containing peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil and various kinds of nuts. In addition, we will not allow any exchange of food between young people. This being said, please make sure to not include any allergenic foods in your child’s lunchbox. Moreover, please note that food exchange between children will not be tolerated. EPIPEN syringes are mandatory for children with allergies. If for some reason your child does not have one in their possession, he or she will be sent home. Thank you for your cooperation! Simon-Olivier Rioux Day Camp Coordinator and his Team
The presence of ticks that can transmit Lyme disease has been documented in many regions of Quebec, including ours, and the number of cases is increasing year after year. People doing outdoor activities (hiking, gardening, camping, etc.), and may be in contact with vegetation (forests, woods and tall grass), are more likely to be exposed to ticks. Sutton Day Camp employees will ensure mosquito repellent is applied when supplied and placed in the child's backpack by the parent. Sutton Day Camp employees will report to the parent the signs and symptoms of a child who may have been bitten by a tick. Day camp employees will not remove ticks from a child. In the case where a tick is found on a child, the parent-contact will be called immediately. How to protect yourself? • Stay on the trails and avoid grazing vegetation during your outdoor activities. • Apply mosquito repellent containing DEET or icaridine (eg Watkins Children, Off !, Muskol, etc.) • Wear a hat, closed shoes, light colored clothing that covers the skin and put your socks over pants and your sweater in your pants. • Take a shower after the activity, examine your body and clothes and remove the ticks. • Put clothes in the dryer at high temperature for 10 minutes or wash them in hot water. Description of the tick The tick that transmits Lyme disease is known as the "deer tick" and "blacklegged tick". She lives especially in forests, woodlands and tall grasses. The tick feeds on the blood of animals or humans. Before it feeds, its size can vary between 1 and 3 millimeters. The tick can triple in volume when it is filled with blood, which makes it easier to spot it in case of a sting. Tick bites are usually painless and often go unnoticed. What to do in case of sting? In case of sting, call Info-Santé at 8-1-1 and remove the tick. The faster it is removed, the lower the risk of disease transmission. Use thin forceps, such as eyebrow tweezers. Avoid using your fingers or nails as you could crush the tick and promote transmission of the bacteria that causes the disease. In some cases, preventive antibiotic treatment is suggested. Ask Info-Santé if you are eligible: you will be redirected to your pharmacist, your FMG nurse or your family doctor if necessary. For more information: www.santeestrie.qc.ca/lyme
