Car Of The 1953 Ford Mainline Owner: Darlene Dickinson I purchased this car in the fall of 2019. I wanted to buy a car I liked. I have taken it out on several runs in 2020 and it runs great. Hope to get out in 2021. Thanks for voting to put it in the car club calendar. Darlene Dickinson. 2
President’s Report Hello Everyone, It has been pretty humid out lately, a true sign that summer is getting very close. With the governor lifting the mask man- date, seeing cases for coronavirus way down, and hearing that Back To The 50’s is back on, looks like we will be getting back to normal soon! Another sign is the start of many car show and swap meet events happening around the area. Bob has been very busy tracking all of these events, see the Siftings for a partial list. I want to thank Duane Gilleland for allowing us to have our May General Meeting at his “garage”. Duane has a lot of nice cars to show and he provided nice weather for us too. Being the Ford guy that I am, it was nice to see he even had a pair of really nice 1950 Mercs. Also want to thank Morris Keeling for his help in setting up for the meeting. We had about 70 members in attendance, another sign things are coming back. - June’s General Meeting will be held in the open pavilion at Community Park located at 151 13th Av. N. in Waite Park. We will start off with a cruise leaving at 6:30 and end up at Community Park. Location for the July General Meeting has yet to be determined. - We had our “Trash and Dash” event (aka. MNDot Adopt-a- Highway cleanup) on Saturday April 24th. Actually the weather was pretty nice, not too hot and not too cold (once we started to walk the ditches). We had 15 members there, and 7 cars in the cruise that followed (see photos in the Siftings on page 8). - Car show flyers are now available. As noted last month, the flyer will be posted in MSRA’s June 2021 issue of LineChaser (thanks Bob for work- ing on this). This will give our show a lot of exposure. - Bruce is getting things ready for the show, look for his report in the Siftings. I don’t know about you, but I am getting excited for our show this year after seeing limited shows in 2020. - The “Cruisin’ in 2021” events are coming fast. June was a few of these events, see Bob’s listings. Again a great way to meet other clubs. - By the time you read this, Bruce, Bob and myself will have met with Sartell-St. Stephen Community Education department speaking at one of their senior citizen events. I find that many people around our area have no idea what our club has done or will do within the community. - If you have a project you are working on and want to share, send your story along with photos to Jim Zwilling to get it posted in the Siftings. It would be great to see what club members are doing. There is no project too big or too small to share. - Since 2020 and nearly half of 2021 has passed, the club has missed out on two Car Show Appreciation Banquets and one Club Birthday Party event. Beth Reimer and Trisha Theil are working to reschedule this year’s Car Show Appreciation Banquet in the fall. The Club Birthday Party is expected to happen this fall as well. With all things considered, it may be a great idea to combine the Banquet and Party into one larger event. By doing both this fall, we expect the corona- virus to have minimal effect on attendance, and hopefully a great time can be had by all. Watch for details. - Lastly (if my math is correct), 2021 marks the 50th Anniversary of our club which began in 1971. The club will be looking at ways to celebrate this milestone. With that, many thanks go out to our founding members! Without them, we wouldn’t be the club that we are today. That’s all I have for now. Let the car shows begin. Thanks Again and remember to…….enjoy the ride Dennis Arntson (aka:) President 3
Vice Presidents Report Hi Everyone, We are in the summer months and prime time for getting out and enjoying our cars. With the lifting of Covid restrictions, we are seeing more cruises, shows and parades that were previously put on hold this year, now on schedule again. Just recently the car show in St. Stephens that was cancelled for the year is back on again on June 4th. from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Other highlighted local shows in June are Moose show on June 11th, Avon show on June 18th and the Eden Val- ley show on June 26th. In early July there is the Annandale show at Classic Rides on July 3rd. At this point I do not know if Jack and Jim’s is having a July 4th show. I will continue to list a few of the bigger shows and swaps and shows with-in 50/60 miles in the Siftings, with the local ones high- lighted. Don’t forget our multi club cruises, it is a great way to get to know members of other clubs the area. The schedule for them is also in the Siftings. At this point the parades we are signed up for are Avon on June 19th with line up at 6:00 and parade at 7:00 P.M. and Foley on June 23rd with line up at 5:30 and parade at 6:30 P.M. Many thanks to Dave Bentley who volunteered to pull the Pan trailer in both parades. If you would like to participate in either of these parades, please contact me. Thanks to Dale and Carol Ann Zika for setting up a schedule for nursing home shows and parades which I have in the Siftings. We are hoping to fill in some gaps from members we have lost or are no longer able to participate with different members, so if you can participate in any of these nursing home events, please do so. Our June pre meeting cruise on June 10th will start at the Sartell Holi- day Station at 216 Riverside Ave. near the 2nd street over pass. We will meet at 6:00 pm and leave at 6:30 for about ½ hr. cruise to our Waite Park meeting. The cruise will be cancelled if we are hav- ing rain or storms, but if the weather is nice, please come join us. With Covid still around us, contin- ue to do what you feel is necessary to stay safe. Take Care ! Bob Halliday Your V.P. Saturday, June 5, 2021 Cancer Cruise of Sibley County, MN The 10th Annual Cancer Cruise of Sibley County, will benefit Becky Schlueter of Arlington. Becky was diagnosed with appendix cancer in 2015. Appendix cancer is very rare, affecting less than ten people per 1 million. After completing chemotherapy, and a very extensive surgery, she was de- clared cancer free, until 2019 when the doctors discovered her cancer had returned. She has faced many other health obstacles because of this diagnosis, and is not able to work while she continues to fight this ugly disease. Location: Arlington Community Center, 204 Shamrock Drive, Arlington MN 12:00 Noon – Vehicle Line Up Suggested $10 Donation per vehicle. Committee members will be walking around with safety vests and donation bags. Any street legal vehicle welcome (daily drivers, Motorcycles, Classics, Rat Rods, etc.) A limited quantity of T-shirts will be available for sale, on a first come first serve basis on June 5. Please pre-order T-shirts, Hoodies, and baseball caps to en- sure you get the correct sizes! Since we don’t know what the COVID regulations will be in June, we are asking that you practice social distancing. 2:00 PM – Cancer Cruise Leaves Arlington We will cruise approximately 60 miles through Sibley County, and return to Arlington. Go on as much, or as little, of the Cruise as you would like. Feel free to turn off the cruise at any time you need to! We pride ourselves on keeping local funds raised, LOCAL. This cruise is a RAIN or SHINE event. 4
Car Show Chairman Report By Chairman Bruce Theisen No.1 Well, people, NOW is the time to put the “Pedal to the Metal!” August 15th will be here before we know it. The 50’s is on so I had to throw a picture of this cover I found in the kitchen. What is the 50’s without a bucket of hot chocolate chip cookies! Yummy. Check Bob’s listings for other events that are popping up now that we are back to the “NO MASK” zone. Flyers are available to hand out if you need some. T-shirts are for sale now. Some are very limited in style or size so don’t hesitate. Check on-line for pictures. The cars on the shirt were to “honor “ some members that go way out of their way for the club and never get the recognition they deserve. I know there are lots more of you - BUT - unfortunately I can’t get you all on a shirt. May- be next year. Trying to get all the sponsors and vendors and contracts lined up. We were in the hold- ing pattern like most until the gov decided if he was going to open up the state, I for one, have no idea what to expect. Are people just going nuts and want to get out so the crowds will be huge? Or will people be cautious and hesitant and stay home? I will let you know August 15th around NOON! Right now I’m planning a chairman’s meeting for June 22nd Tuesday at 7:00 at the Moose. I would really appreciate if all could make it. We will see if we need a July meeting. We will do the FLYER mailing before - maybe start at 6:00, bring your ideas and suggestions - the time to change or im- plement new plans is growing short. I need a count from each committee on how many passes they need - either by the regular or chairman’s meeting. Need a count on any needs - admission, food or pop! I am still looking for items to put in the goody bag. If you have any or know of any - clamp on them or let me know. We will assemble them the first part of August. So Mark June 22nd on your calendar so you show up. And now for my chuckle of the month: As a self - confirmed old rock and roll addict My garage stereo comes on with the light switch. Old rock and roll addict I’ll throw these out there for ya. One of my favorite songs (out of hundreds - maybe thousands) is “unchained Melo- dy “ by the Righteous Brothers - Bobby actually. It was recorded by a whopping 607 different art- ists. He - by far - does it best. You know how to tell when a song is really good? When you pull in your driveway, but don’t get out of the car till the song is over. When I was in high school, my buddy had a T-Bird so we cruised on weekends. It even had an 8-track. ! WOW! Only had a couple tapes so of course we heard the same song 10 Or 15 times a night. Quite a few of the tapes were Beach Boys so they became one of my Top 10 groups. But check out Kathy Troccoli singing “I Can Hear Music.” Just great. Another song I ran across was a cover to “Locomotion” by Kylie Minogue (an Aussie - think Olivia Newton John) . Lil Eva did it great but she is unbelievable - and cute! A late 80’s cover by Kylie who went on to greatness. Well - enuf. Think Back to Normal. Bruce Theisen Car Show Chairman 2021 (NOT 2022 ) Car Show Chair Meeting There will be a Car Show Chair Meeting June 22nd at 7 pm at The Moose. We will be do- ing the flyer mailing around 6pm. I will need a count from each chair on how many Car Show passes they need. Still need Goodie Bag items. Please also bring any ideas or sugges- tions. Thanks Bruce. 5
