Why with the Army ?
As the Army School of Command and Leadership, the mission of the Saint-Cyr
Coëtquidan Military Academy is to enable prospective officers to exercise
command in challenging circumstances, whatever the combat situation they
will have to face.
The school’s project-based educational program takes its roots in a two
hundred-year-old tradition.
                        This not a :
                             Military course
                             Commando training
                             Recruitment test for a military career
                                  So you don t need to be particularly fit :
                                  normal activity is good enough !

                        But this is :
                             A special moment where you will interact with
                             people who habitually manage challenging projects
                             in complex and difficult conditions.

How does it happen ?
• Each student belongs to a group of 12-13 for the two days, with a senior
 officer as instructor.

• For each exercice :
  • A leader will be designated from the group and will have to execute a mission.
  • Once the task has been completed, there will be a debriefing and some points
    will be explained by the instructor.

Course grading policy
• 50% : Attendance and Investment
• 50% : Academic Paper Questions

You will be asked to address two questions (see next slides).
The questions will be weighted equally and your paper should not
exceed 1500 words in total.

Question 1
•   You mention during an interview with your future employer
    that you have improved your leadership skills with a
    seminar in the French Army during your MBA studies.
    Your interviewer is skeptical and does not seem to
    understand how such an experience can make you a
    better leader in the corporate, government, or NGO world.
    Explain how this training strengthened your professional
    leadership skills. Use specific examples from
    your experience during the seminar to illustrate and back
    up your rationale.

Question 2
• In      the    leadership      role,  what     was     the     most
  challenging experience for you during the St. Cyr seminar?
  Analyze        your       challenge    using      the      concepts
  discussed in the Organizational Behavior core course. Your
  answer should contain three parts :
• 1) Start with a short description of your challenge. Provide just
  enough context for the reader to understand the situation and
  your challenge.
• 2) Use up to 3 class concepts to analyze and make sense
  of the situation. It is up to you which class concepts and
  theories you use, but they need to be applied accurately
  (detailed and substantially correct) and appropriately
  (fit the specific situation).
• 3) Based on your analysis, end with a reflection on what you
  could have done better in that particular situation, what insights
  you have gained from this analysis, and what you will
  do in the future to handle similar situations in the real world.

Medical
A medical certificate, health insurance and civil liability are
mandatory in order to participate to the seminar.
You file is ready or in preparation with Johanna Abouteboul.
The file has to be ready before March, 12th, 23h59
After this deadline, F will be given for missing.

You will receive an email to remind you all those information.

Exempted people will have a teamwork to do in Jouy during the
seminar, which will be also evaluated. Details will be given later.

In practice : living
                      indoor
• Basic military accommodation with hot water and
  showers.
• (Bring soap & earplugs if the others snore …)
• No sheets: bring your own sleeping bag.

                       A working
                       suit will be
                       provided.

                     But you must
                     bring good
                     sturdy shoes

Check-list for Off-campus seminar in
    Saint-Cyr
•   Little rucksack: small hiking bag pack type, not luxury
    handbag!
•   Gourde or bottle of water.
•   Sweatshirt + underclothes for 2 days and nights.
•   Fleece jacket for the evening.
•   Rain coat and warm gloves (in case)
•   Toiletries/ towels ; travel pillow if needed.
•   Good sturdy shoes (for your security and to prevent ankle
    sprain), extra socks.
•   Fingerless gloves (important).
•   Sleeping bag.
