TNL launches charity appeal for Afghanistan The Times and The Sunday Times has launched a charity appeal with The Halo Trust, working to clear landmines and explosive devices as the Taliban seizes control of Afghanistan. The Halo Trust, which became well known in 1997 when Diana, Princess of Wales, was photographed walking through one of the minefields it was clearing in Angola, has a team of 2,500 local residents sweeping Afghanistan. It has had a constant presence in the country since 1988, including the years when the Taliban last ruled, and has been told by them it can continue its work. Simon Conway, the charity’s director of capabilities, said donations would help the trust to make land safer for residents and aid agencies. To donate, visit www.halotrust.org/times- appeal
