PRAYER MATTERS Compiled by Lieut-Colonel David Phillips We will feature personal prayer topics this week. Monday 27 May – Ephesians 5 v 2 and 1 Corinthians 13. Pray that God will help you to continually walk in love. Love is the fulfilling of God’s love in the New Testament. Every Christian is required and is expected to make love their lifestyle and walk in love always. (Song 666 ‘O for a humbler walk with God!’) Tuesday 28 May – Matthew 6 v 9-13. The Lord’s Prayer. This prayer is the true classic. Most of us have said this prayer and could likely recite it now. There is much more to this model that Jesus gave us than rote recitation. This is a prayer with real power. God’s Kingdom coming, God’s will being done, all that we need for the day. Make it your prayer for today. (Song 750 ‘Father, I know that all my life’) Wednesday 29 May – Titus 2 v 11-14. Ask God to give you more grace. Grace is the beauty of God on the life of people. Every Christian has been given the grace of God, but it is important to grow in it and to learn how not to frustrate it when it is working for you. We need to pray daily for more grace. (Song 699 ‘Grace alone which God supplies’) Thursday 30 May – Ephesians 1 v 17-18. Ask God to grant you the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation in God’s word. Revelation refers to insight, knowledge into hidden things. To know God, it must be by revelation. God is the only one who knows all things and is aware of all things. (Song 810 ‘Set forth within the sacred Word’) Friday 31 May – 2 Corinthians 13 v 14. Pray that you will constantly experience the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. God gave The Holy Spirit to the church so He can lead us daily in our Christian walk. The Holy Spirit is Himself God. He is known in the scriptures as the Spirit of the Father and the Spirit and the Son. He is the Spirit of God. He is the principal person that walks with the Christian today. (Song 325 ‘Fellowship with thee’) Saturday 1 June – Psalm 99. A Prayer of Praise. A quote from John Piper: ‘To praise God is essential for every Christian. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him’. And a quote from Dwight D L Moody: ‘I don’t care where it is, what part of the world it is in, if we have a praise church we’ll have successful Christianity’. Pray our Corps will be a praising church. (Song 56 ‘Praise the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation’) Sunday 2 June – Ephesians 1 v 16-17. A Prayer of Thanksgiving. A quote from Amy Leigh Marcella: ‘Thanksgiving is a joyous invitation to shower the world with love and gratitude’. And a quote from Ole Hallesby: ‘Jesus is moved to happiness every time He sees that you appreciate what He has done for you’. Pray your personal prayers of Thanksgiving today. (Song 363 ‘Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King’)
