Pa s t o r ’s Po n d e r i n g s Creation. Newness. Life. These are the things that make our life with Christ hopeful, joyful, and exciting. The Bible begins with God creating the world and everything in it. John’s gospel echoes these first verses of Genesis with “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…All things came into being through him. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5) We are beginning to emerge from the darkness of the pandemic, but there are areas of our world that are not to the point we are. They need our support and witness to the light. They need to see there is hope. There are people in our community struggling. They too need our witness; to show them the light of Christ through our actions. And there are people in our lives and congregation that are going through difficult times. They also need us to be with them. To walk with them, comfort them, remind them God is with them. We do these things as a way of living into God’s creative spirit, bringing newness and life where it is most needed. We can set aside our differences politically, economical- ly, racially, nationally, and think globally, moving forward into the abundant life Christ offers to all. As we read in the prophet Isaiah, “Be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating”. (Isaiah 43:18) When we bring this newness of life to others, we experience it ourselves. It is easy to get pulled back and want to return to the way things were, but again the prophet Isaiah comes to us with these words from God, “Do not remember the former things, or con- sider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:18-19) As we have our “soft opening” and move into the building for worship, what if we did- n’t think of it as “returning” or going back to the “way things were before.” What if we looked at it as a move forward? God has given us a prime opportunity to live into new and creative ways of doing things. We also have some terrific ministries that have not only continued but blos- somed during the pandemic. As we are propelled forward, may God’s words from Revelation inspire you, “See I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21:5) To God be the glory, now and always! Blessings, 4 June 2021

She loved buying special shoes to go with the various outfits she wore. When she played the organ using the foot pedals, she couldn’t wear specialty shoes with higher heals so she always kept her favorite pair of bright pink flats next to the organ to wear. They were a very small size and everyone knew they were hers. When Nancy grew gravely ill, she continued to play as much as possible but Judy and Sandy began taking over responsibilities accompanying church services and choirs. The bright pink shoes remained next to the organ in case Nancy might come in to play. When Nancy passed away, her pink shoes were put on top of the grand piano with her photo and flowers for her funeral/ memorial. Nancy had previously chosen and recorded all the music accompani- ments for her service. Those who attended were able to sing all the hymns while Nancy played (wearing her bright pink shoes) via technology recorded days earlier by Pastor Mark. Some of us have copies of her recorded music as a tribute to her memory. Every time I am in the choir loft and walk by the hand rail next to the organ, I look down to see Nancy’s shoes which continue to remain next to the organ. I feel her spirit with us and always smile when I see her little bright pink shoes. Nancy Wiessner Newport Lutheran Church
