[SECTION 1: MISSION TRIP INFORMATION] Commitments This trip is a journey we’re all on together and it starts right now. Faith Promise Commitment: Wheatland Salem Church believes in mission. Some of our annual Faith Promise funding is set aside to augment members investment in the mission of sharing the gospel. If the short term missionary does not raise their total trip need, up to a third of the mission trip cost can be covered by WSC., if the following Faith Promise Commitments are met: -completely fill out the Mission Application on line at Students — Wheatland Salem Church -send support letters to family and friends outside of the WSC congregation (see pages 7-9). All missionaries participate in this type of activity. Pre-Trip Meetings/Team Building: Participate in pre-trip meetings and team building events. 3 Scholarships: Scholarships are available on a case by case basis. All payments are non-refundable. Pre-Trip Event Schedule: TBD 6
[SECTION 2: SUPPORT] Support Letters As missionaries, it is common and expected to write letters to family and friends asking for prayer and finan- cial support. Not only does this help with the seemingly insurmountable task of paying for the mission trip, but it invites others outside of our congregation to be involved in the mission process, thus blessing more people through it. It also increases our dependence on God to provide as we look outside of our own means for provision. Letters should be addressed and sent by the students to friends and family outside of Wheatland Salem. For your friends and family who are supporting you to receive giving credit, the checks must be: • made out to “Wheatland Salem Church” with only “Youth Mission Trip”, not your name, in the memo line. • Support responses should be sent directly to the student. • Logged by student to keep track of amount given in support. • Drop money/paperwork off in Vicki Saunders mailbox in the church mailroom, next to Hospitality Center. Note: If you receive funds in excess of the cost of the trip, that will be considered an additional donation to the youth mission. There are NO REFUNDS, including your deposit. There will be many opportunities for us to help out in the area we are serving and those additional funds will help purchase supplies. The next two pages include materials you may choose to use for support letter writing. Be sure to fill out the “student name” section of the response card as well as the space at the bottom of the letter for your home address and your signature. If you really want to encourage responses, include a self- addressed, stamped envelope. (This information will also be provided on the Church website for downloadable/usable forms for each participant) We hope that you, your families and friends, are blessed by this exciting process! If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact or email: * Glen Neace, Coordinator of Student Ministries, 630.476.0696, e-mail glen_neace@wheatlandsalem.org 7
Dear Family and Friends, I am very excited to be a member of a short-term mission team going to serve in St. Louis, Missouri. We are busy making preparations, as our team will be leaving on Monday morning 7:00 a.m., July 27, and returning home on Saturday, August 1 around 5:00 p.m. This years trip, we are working with The Radius Group. Radius Group is a registered 501C3 Charitable Organization that seeks to develop students as servant-leaders and lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. While in that area, we will be focusing on several ways to serve people: • Children’s Ministry—Kids Club, crafts, games, etc. • Community Service—Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Ministry, Prayer walks • Construction—building/repairing projects in homes and around the community We want to offer our friends and family members an opportunity to participate in this mission event with us. First, we are seeking prayer partners. Our prayer requests include: - That our hearts are open to God’s plan for our trip - For guidance as we make preparations - That God will work in the hearts of the people we encounter in Saint Louis - For our health and safety as we travel to Saint Louis and back - Safety on the work sites and in ministry areas Second, we are also looking for people to support us financially to cover some of our trip expenses, as well as the ministry areas (possibly paint and painting supplies, construction supplies, etc.) we will be involved in and would like to invite you to contribute. There are financial needs and each team member is responsible to raise gifts for this mission trip. Gifts to the church with an expression of preference for my expenses are tax deductible to the extent by law (please make checks out to “Wheatland Salem Church” with “Youth Mission Trip” in the memo). Please do NOT put my name on the check, just mail it back to me so that I can keep track. The rest of the funding for the trip has been contributed by trip participants and by Wheatland Salem Church Faith Promise funds. If I am una- ble to participate in the trip, your gifts will be used to support the ministry of this trip. Please take a moment to fill out the enclosed response card and indicate where you would like to place your support. Then, in the enclosed envelope, send it back to my home address which is: _________________________ _________________________ Please prayerfully consider supporting this mission opportunity. Your assistance will impact the lives of people around the world. In God’s love, (sign your name personally on each letter) 8

Wheatland Salem’s Dress code: Casual, comfortable clothes are recommended for both ministry and free time. Our desire is to minister to the greatest number of people possible. Whether on campus or out on the site, it is important that nothing we do, say, or wear distracts from our message of sharing the Gospel and making disciples. In an effort to help you dress in a manner that will not take away from your ministry efforts, we have provided the following guidelines that will be strictly enforced: SHORTS: Shorts MUST reach the end of your fingertips while standing. Running shorts that “swoop” up on the sides are not acceptable if they do not meet the length requirement all the way around. T-SHIRTS: Beware of any offensive or insensitive material printed on t-shirts. You can roll the sleeves up. No part of undergarments must ever be seen. White t-shirts are not recommended for girls. SHOES: Closed toe shoes with closed heels must be worn while on construction sites. Keep your feet protected! Shoes must be worn when in dining room or food preparation areas for health and sanitation reasons. JEANS: Jeans offer more protection, but are not required for work sites unless otherwise stated. Low- cut hip hugger jeans are not allowed unless a shirt is worn long enough to cover the backside and midriff. SWIMSUITS: For males, board shorts are acceptable swimwear (no speedos). For females, modest one-piece swimsuits or tankinis that completely cover the midriff are acceptable. NO two-pieces, mono-kinis, bikinis, or anything that reveals midriff or is very low-cut. If for any reason clothing choices do not meet these standards, we will ask you to change clothes. We always want to make sure that whatever we do is glorifying to God! 11
