Even with the challenges that 2018 has brought, it was a pretty good year. Over this year we have cried at funerals for several of our brothers and sisters in Christ, celebrated the joy of Baptism, and welcomed several new members into the family. So here we are again at the dawning of a new year, full of hope, promise, and new opportunities. I know that this time of year, many of us make New Year’s resolutions. We promise that we are going to eat better, exercise more, or do something new to make ourselves better this year. While our resolutions often focus on our physical health, I think it’s of great importance that we think about out spiritual health as well. What would it look like to rededicate ourselves to God? One way we can do that is part of the Covenant renewal service, where we pledge ourselves anew to God. Part of the prayers in that service says: Lord, make me what you will. I put myself fully into your hands: put me to doing, put me to suffering, let me be employed for you, or laid aside for you, let me be full, let me be empty, let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and with a willing heart give it all to your pleasure and disposal. Can you imagine what our lives and our community would look like if we would pray this daily and fully surrender to what God has in store for us? This prayer is part of my new year's resolution for 2019, to pray it daily and to ask God to continue to transform my heart for service to others. Friends, will you join with me in claiming 2019 as a year of transformation, renewal, love, and service? I don’t know what our path will look like this next year, but I do look forward to walking it with you. Grace and peace, Pastor Walter 1

The women of UMW chose to host a Christmas party for the residents of Cedar Hill Nursing Home in Camp Wood as their Christmas project of 2019. On Wednesday, December 12, we caravanned to Camp Wood, loaded with over 80 shoeboxes filled with toiletries and other gifts, as well as gifts for all the staff. Cookies and punch were served, and some pretty rowdy games of bingo took place. Throughout the morning’s party, carols were sung. What a blessing for all who attended! Big thanks to Rick Austin, who played the piano for us, and all the men from the church who joined us and made the party extra special. Thanks to all who were able to attend the Christmas brunch on December 2. We are grateful for all the support from the congregation throughout the year. The food was wonderful and if you didn’t get to see John and Sandi Patrick in their new Christmas sweater, you missed a special moment. Our next meeting is Wednesday, January 16 at 10 AM in the Fellowship Hall. If you haven’t participated, maybe now is your time. This is a great opportunity for women of faith to share and encourage each other through prayer, study, and wonderful Christian fellowship. If you have questions about any of our activities, please contact Betty Jo Bates at 232-6262 or Pam Gasper at 232-4621. 3
JAM (Jesus and Me) Our Wednesday after-school children’s Bible program for ages K-5th grade has a new name as we head into a new year. On Wednesday, December 16, we had our last class of 2018. We made advent wreaths and learned what each candle represented. Then we had a birthday party for Jesus! Thanks to Rhonda Turner for making the birthday cake, to Mark and Roxane Rutherford and Suzanne Lambert for the pizza, and several who made gift bags. We will resume on January 9, 2019. Activity leaders are in place, but we need helpers! Could you commit to one Wednesday a month from 3:45-5:30? Or be willing to be a substitute? For more information, call Pam Gasper at 232-4621. Youth will resume on January 9th @ 5:30 pm. 4
