Page 5 Parish Life Annual Catholic Appeal Come, follow me … and bring hope to the world I invite you to spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal materials you should have received in your bulletin or in the mail. The Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection: It is a pledged commitment to make a gift over time. Your pledge can be made payable in installments. Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services to answer the call of Jesus to “Come, follow me … and bring hope to the world.” If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back. This year, we also encourage our parishioners to make their Annual Catholic Appeal gifts online: http://annualcatholicappeal.com and you can also text to give - text ACA2021 to 345345. Building a Bigger Table: LGBT Catholics in Today’s Church Join St. Teresa of Avila Parish for a virtual conversation with Flora X. Tang, a theology and peace studies PhD student at the University of Notre Dame on the place of LGBT Catholics in the modern church. February 24th: 7-8pm CST Register online at https://teresa.church/building-a-bigger-table A Letter From Fr. Frank - Ash Wednesday Wednesday, February 17th: 7am, 8am, 12pm, 6pm, and 7pm. As we approach the season of Lent I would like to invite all to sign up for one of the Masses on Ash Wednesday, February 17th: 7:00 am; 8:00 am; Noon; 6:00 pm; 7:00 pm. The masses will be short, with ashes being distributed after a brief homily. The five masses will allow for a better distribution of people, ensuring proper distancing. I will have individual bags of ashes to be picked up at rectory for those wanting to give ashes to family members. They should not be distributed to anyone else. Each person will come forward as if going to Communion and I will use a Q TIP to mark each person’s forehead. This will be done in silence.Every person will receive a fresh Q TIP to ensure safety. Originally, we were told we could only “sprinkle” the ashes on top of each person’s head, but after careful consideration, the archdiocese is allowing the use of Q TIPS. I will dispose of the Q TIPs by burning them. February is the month we pray for those who are sick and in need of healing, in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes. To honor this day, I will offer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick after the 10:00 am Sunday, February 7th. The Sacrament will be celebrated safely in one’s car by entering the lot on Armitage Ave, be anointed if you wish, and then receive Holy Communion. If you are not going to be Anointed, you would simply receive Communion. I will wear a mask and shield, and anoint each person on the forehead and on the palms of both hands with a cotton ball. Each person will be Anointed with a fresh cotton ball. During Lent, I will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Confessions, on Tuesday’s from 6:00- 7:30 pm in the Parish Center. This will be done safely, individually and privately. Peace to All, Fr. Frank
