Great Kills Moravian Church The Herald July/August 2019 2019 Volume 7 This past week I had the opportunity to gather with over 400 women from across the worldwide Mo- ravian Unity at the 13th Moravian Women's Conference. The singing and sharing were powerful and moving. There were more young women involved in participation and leadership than before due to scholarships received and a special emphasis on imagining what it means to be a “church lady” in today’s world. Among those gathered were teachers, medical professionals, students, executives, caregivers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, pastors, mothers, sisters, aunties, daughters, and grandmoth- ers. We were encouraged by keynote speaker Sarah Bessy to be fearless that by even faith the size of a mustard seed we will experience God’s power to “move mountains” – to do more than we think possible. This year’s conference theme was taken from the same verse that our Great Kills Elders read in unison at the close of each meeting taken from Ephesians 3:20 “Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us.” I pray that the Holy Spirit be unleashed not only among the women of our church but within all our congregations as Peter preached at the awakening of the church saying, “In the last days, God de- clares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon every kind of people: Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters; Your young men will see visions, your old men dream dreams. When the time comes, I’ll pour out my Spirit on those who serve me, men and women both, and they’ll prophesy” (Acts 2: 12- 22). It may be summertime but our church in Great Kills is alive with the movement of the Holy Spirit. We have opportunity to be “unleashed” in the service of Christ through Vacation Bible School, a mission update from Moravian missionaries Phil and Eunice Raiford, and a fellowship BBQ. An Infant Bap- tism provides us all with an opportunity to remember our own welcoming into Christ’s body and- with waters fresh- being called to serve as Christ’s disciples in and ever-changing world. We will “roll up our sleeves” in August and reach out with God’s loving kindness through our Staten Island Moravian clothing distribution (dates and times). We continue to call upon each person no matter age or gen- der to live out their faith and share the love of God through our commitment to Christ’s ministry and mission in Great Kills Moravian Church. Let us rejoice as the power of the Holy Spirit is being “unleashed” among us and our congregation. In Christ,
