“They who daily pray in their houses do well; they that not only
pray, but read the Scriptures, do better; but they do best of all,
who not only pray and read the Scriptures, but sing the praises of
                             God.”
                      – Matthew Henry

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your
heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall
talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by
the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."

Dear New Life in Christ Church Family,

“They who daily pray in their houses do well; they that not only pray, but read the
Scriptures, do better; but they do best of all, who not only pray and read the
Scriptures, but sing the praises of God.”
                                 – Matthew Henry

Research affirms what the Bible teaches: Your family habits and practices make a
massive difference in developing the faith of your family. bustling family, your
time reading the Bible, as a home, will make a massive difference in each persons
lives. If you are married, reading the Scriptures together helps you form your
minds and hearts together in Christ. If you are single, just reading the Bible alone
makes a big difference.

This tool can be used for family devotions, which I suggest to take place after a
meal or just before bed. It can be used as part of your homeschool curriculum. It
can also be used for a personal quiet time. As God’s Word becomes a priority for
you and your family, you will find how it centers your life on the Lord, and brings
love, peace, hope, faith, conviction, and unity. It is easy to plow into our day
without taking the time come to one mind with the Lord by reading the
Scriptures.

The Family Devotion Guide provides a daily routine for you to seek the Lord, gain
His mind by reading His Word, and ask Him to direct our day. It is a simple plan
that focuses us on three things:

• Praising God in Worship: I have included a monthly hymn. You can sing this
every day or whenever you want. The more you sing it, the more familiar you
will be with it, and it will become part of your whole being. There is great
benefit with familiarity of good things, especially meditation and deeper
understanding of the words. You may even notice something one day they
didn’t realize the day before. Take time to point it out and ask your children
    about the things you notice.

• Reading God’s Word Together: I have prepared a daily reading guide using a
Bible Plan I use on YouVersion. It will take you through the New Testament in
a year. If you miss a day, either skip it, catch up, or go back. All three are good
    options.

o You can choose how to include family members in Bible reading. My own
family usually has each member read a paragraph out loud at a time,
rotating in a circle. Slower readers can read one or two sentences.

Everybody should have a Bible, preferably of the same translation. Even if
they are too little to read, it is good practice for them to have their Bible
open during this time. You can get simple Bibles inexpensively.

o Don’t forget to pray! Use your reading time to structure your prayer. I
like the model of ACTS prayer. So think about Adoration, Confession,
Thanksgiving, and Supplication as you read the passage. You could even
use these four questions to discuss the reading once you are done:
          ▪ ADORATION: What is one thing we can praise God for in this passage?
Do we see something in his character worth praising?
          ▪ CONFESSION: What is one sin we need to confess as we read this
               passage?
          ▪ THANKSGIVING: What is one thing we can thank God for doing for us
               or for His people?
          ▪ SUPPLICATION: What is one thing we need to pray about? What do
we need God’s grace to do faithfully in service to Him?

• How to do this:
o I don’t believe you can start too young. Even if your kids cant participate
because they are too little, they will become accustomed to hearing from
         you before they jump in.
o You can do this alone. Don’t be afraid to sing alone. You will benefit from
it, as it turns your heart heavenward.
o Get everyone a book. It’s a lot of copies, sure, but we will make more.
o Consider buying one or more hymn books. Why not have a hymnbook for
         every member of your family?

• A Memory Verse: The verses suggested are some of the most important
passages to memorize in the Bible. It follows the Fighter Verses memorization
plan that goes along with the church.

“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Tim
                                         2:1)

Daily Bible reading is a critical way to be strengthened by God’s grace. The
temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil are constantly coming against
us. The only way to arm ourselves and our families against these attacks is to be
strong in God’s grace. As God’s word dwells in us, we will have every tool we need
to face the challenges of life with confidence, courage, and faith.

May the Lord greatly bless you as you endeavor to the spiritual nourishment of
your home and family members.

Faithfully Yours,
Pastor Sean

A number of people have contributed to this booklet. If you find it beneficial, take
some time to thank them. We all appreciate their contributions.

The original idea for this comes from Sharon Leaman, who completed the first
version of something called “The Morning Bell” for Christ Covenant School.

“who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He
made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel.” (Psalm
103:5–7, ESV)

“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in
steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to
our iniquities.” (Psalm 103:8–10, ESV)

“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast
love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far
does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion
to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For
he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.” (Psalm 103:11–14,

for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.”

May Memory Verses:
““Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the
kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves
with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that
does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where
your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:32–34, ESV)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
(Galatians 5:22–23, ESV)

“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its
passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the
Spirit.” (Galatians 5:24–25, ESV)

“My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s
teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck.”
(Proverbs 6:20–21, ESV)

“When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch
over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. For the
commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of
discipline are the way of life,” (Proverbs 6:22–23, ESV)

June Memory Verses:
“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever
situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know
how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of
facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through
him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11–13, ESV)

“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
(2 Timothy 1:7, ESV)

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at
the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him,
because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary
the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1
Peter 5:6–8, ESV)

“Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are
being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after
you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to
his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and
establish you.” (1 Peter 5:9–10, ESV)

October Memory Verses:

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful,
and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he
will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1
Corinthians 10:13, ESV)

“Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him
stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us
peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4–5, ESV)

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6, ESV)

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live
to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24, ESV)

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory
beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things
that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are
unseen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:17–18, ESV)

November Memory Verses:
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who
lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20, ESV)

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by
his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,” (Romans
3:23–24, ESV)

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw
near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who
seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6, ESV)

“For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we
live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether
we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” (Romans 14:7–8, ESV)
