NATURE VANCOUVER SUMMER CAMP 2018 McGillivray Pass Special Camp – 100 Years Celebration Camp Dates: Camp 1: Sunday, July 22 to Sunday, July 29, 2018 Camp 2: Sunday, July 29 to Sunday, August 5, 2018 The first meal is dinner; the last meal is breakfast, with bag lunch for the road. If there are not enough applications for both camps, only one camp will go ahead (week to be chosen based on demand). Location and Direction: McGillivray Pass is located in the Bendor Range of the Coast Mountains, between the village of Bralorne and Anderson Lake. The camp location is at approximately 50.6732, -122.5711 https://goo.gl/maps/e39BdhrRPGN2. Elevation 1800 metres. Overnight accommodation and meals are available in Bralorne and Gold Bridge, as well as a number of Recreation Campsites. Detailed directions and information will be provided with registration confirmation Details: Camp fee is $925/adult and $460/child under 16 years. The camp fees include all meals and snacks. Personal camping and hiking equipment is not provided. Since this is an alpine camp, we will be using helicopters to transport all our equipment and personal gear. Your bags should not weigh more than 45 lbs. total. The hike from the staging area into camp is abt. 8.5 kms and takes about 3.5 hrs. It is not a hilly kind of hike. If you would prefer to helicopter in or out, this would be an additional cost of $100 per in/out trip. Our camp has a dining tent and will be fully catered by wonderful cooks from the tree planting culinary tradition. Given our experience with these cooks, campers can look forward to delicious meals, ample quantity and plenty of variety. Please indicate your dietary needs on the application. What to expect at camp: For those who have not attended a Nature Vancouver (NV) summer camp, camp begins on Sunday with setting up camp. All campers complete various assigned chores to set up the shared facilities needed to live comfortably in a catered camp. Personal tents are then set up in the campsite of your choice and you are ready for dinner. Running the camp requires everybody working together and volunteering for various daily chores, which will be detailed and explained during the pre-camp meeting. There will be several activities offered every day, ranging from easy strolls to more vigorous all-day hikes and moderate climbs. These will be led by volunteer leaders who often have a special area of interest such as birds, flowers, insects and mammals, local history, photography or painting. New trip leaders are always very welcome. Each evening a group gathering features trip reports and entertainment or a speaker.
For Nature Vancouver, the safety of our members is a serious concern at summer camps, and we expect everyone to follow the safety rules attached to application form (see website). To: Elly Brok, Registrar, NV Summer Camp, 5315 Wales Street Vancouver, B.C., V5R 3M7 A poem by John Muir about a Nature Experience Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer. Camp out among the grasses and gentians of glacial meadows, in craggy garden nooks full of nature's darlings. Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature's sources never fail.
