Higher Ground Program Description Higher Ground Program Structure: Higher Ground is a Christian Leadership Camp designed to encourage and equip High School students with a primary focus on biblical Disciple-Making and Servant-Leadership Development. Higher Ground is intended for those who are ALREADY Believers and want to grow in their faith and leadership skills. When people think of a Leadership Camp, they may assume that the only activities available are sitting around reading and studying the Bible, being taught the Bible, and praying. Although these are aspects of HG Camp, they will be fulfilled in the context of fun and enjoyable activities. Campers will participate in wilderness adventures, water activities, sports, challenge course, and so much more! Because this camp experience is different from any of KAA’s other camps, please make sure this information is clearly communicated with all potential HG campers. **New this year… Kaleos and/or Group Leaders will be asked to attend certain training sessions with campers while they are at the HG camp. Higher Ground 1st Year Camper Profile: A camper who desires to participate in the Higher Ground Leadership Training Program must meet the following criteria: • Be in an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ • Possess a strong desire to grow in their faith • Agree to participate in all training activities (spiritual & physical) • Assume personal responsibility for learning and practice while at camp and at home • Submit to and follow authority • Have a Mentor/Accountability Partner involved in their life Higher Ground Follow-up Process: Every camper is given a packet of information that will consist of HG Camper contact information, HG Expectations and a group photo. There will be continued assignments for each camper to complete throughout the school year. These will be explained clearly at camp and then also emailed to each camper with further information and links to submit the assignments on Google Forms. Higher Ground Training: ❖ First year campers attend 7 days of fun and applicable equipping at camp and will leave the camp for various local service projects. ❖ Second year campers attend 14 days of camp with 7 of those days for instruction, and then they will put that training into practice in urban and rural environments. ❖ Third year campers will attend 1 week of camp (with 2 days of training at HG) and then work as an LIT (Leader in Training) as they work at Higher Ground or any of the other 3 Camps, shadowing their Counselors or Leadership. All HG Campers who complete the 3 year program with excellence will be highly sought after as staff at any of the KAA Camps. After completing the 3rd year, campers will have the option to go on an International Mission Trip at their own expense. Details will be given to eligible campers and mentors each year. 1
Higher Ground 1 & 2 “Our purpose is to encourage and equip High School students with a primary focus on biblical Disciple-Making and Servant-Leadership Development.” - Higher Ground Purpose Statement HG will have a primary focus on disciple-making and servant-leadership development in four areas: Character, Vision/Passion, Skills and Knowledge, all through a biblical framework and perspective. We accomplish this goal by: • Equipping Campers to: • Properly study the Word using a variety of applicable resources • Tell their faith story with scriptural context • Evangelize with confidence • Apply biblical leadership principles in any context • Acquire a biblical understanding of what it means to lead like Jesus Christ in modern culture • Possess basic knowledge and skills to be a disciple of Christ and make disciples, in the context of the local church • Implement Spiritual Roadmaps and Service Projects to reinforce their learning throughout the year • Pre-plan their personal and spiritual goals for the year • Modeling for them: • How to have a consistent priority time • Identity in Christ • Conflict Resolution • A culture of community and family • A biblical approach to marriage, dating and singleness • Biblical manhood and womanhood • How to study the Bible Every activity at HG is a teachable experience that illustrates how to apply biblical principles First year campers attend 7 days of fun and applicable equipping at camp and will leave the camp for various local service projects. Second year campers attend 14 days of camp with 7 of those days for instruction, and then they will put that training into practice in urban and rural environments. HG 2 is only offered to campers who have already completed HG Year 1. 2
Higher Ground 3 “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” —Hebrews 13:7 HG 3 is the year of LIT Third year campers will attend 1 week of camp (with 2 days of training at HG) and then work as an LIT (Leader in Training) as they work at Higher Ground or any of the other 3 Camps, shadowing their Counselors or Leadership. Higher Ground Highlights Staff that are dedicated, trained and equipped to lead and model to the campers the principles of Disciple-making and Servant Leadership.
