TRAVEL INFORMATION • Tentative departure: Wednesday, July 10, early afternoon • Tentative return: Monday July 15, early evening • Transportation: Charter bus - Potentially sharing bus with other group(s), depending on OR participation numbers
PREPARING FOR THE GATHERING • Be a regular participant in youth bible studies and fellowship events. • Participate in fundraising activities between now and the gathering. • Plan to attend all pre-gathering meetings and bible studies so I am fully prepared for the Gathering. • Meet all deadlines for payments, forms and replies.
SAMPLE DAILY EVENT SCHEDULE • 8:00 a.m. Servant Event Deployment / Community Group time; Adult Leader morning meeting • 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Morning Bible Study – at the convention center & selected hotels • 11:00 a.m. Experiential Learning Floors open in the convention center • 12:00 p.m. Session 1 – Break-out sessions/ Special interest centers/Concert/Academy • 2:00 p.m. Session 2 – Break-out sessions/ Special interest centers/Concert/Academy • 4:00 p.m. Session 3 – Break-out sessions/ Special interest centers/Concert/Academy • 8:30 p.m. Mass Event begins • Following the Mass Event: Mass Event Plus; Night Life; Community Group time
SAMPLE BREAK OUT SESSIONS • Altered Realty (A Look at Marriage) • Ask Anything Q&A with the Theology Guy • I Believe but….. • Too Many Rules • Trust
MISSION/SERVICE EVENT Assist a local resident or organization with various projects: • Helped paint and clean a school in New Orleans (2016) • Clean up a Condo Community (2013) • Fence painting, tree branch clean up, gardening, removed a wishing well • Blood drive/food collection/Malaria project (2013) • Cleaned up a therapeutic horse farm for children with disabilities (2010)
EVENING FUN Break into groups with a Shepherd • Dances • Games • Entertainment – Christian Comedy Acts – Concerts, etc. Conclude with Midnight Bible Study • Discuss our Bible Study of the day
SAFETY • Each hotel room will be assigned a shepherd – you will need to ensure your shepherd knows where you are located at all times – whose group you are part of and all session and activities you will be attending. • Each event site will have a meeting location after all events; once we arrive, we will also have an outside emergency location in case of an emergency or separation. For example a fire, meet by a tree or a certain side of the building or a lamppost in the parking lot. • Personal safety in the city
SAFETY • No leaving the hotel without an adult • If you want to go to McDonalds’ you must take a shepherd and two other youth members. • We are there to be your guide – we will break out into group during the evening activities and decide on up to 5 different locations with a group of at least 3 kids wanting to attend. • No one wonders the hotel alone, the most important point is you must take 2 friends with you at all times. • Hydration is extremely important • We will purchase several cases of water for the trip, it is extremely important that everyone drinks plenty of water so no one experiences heat related issues.
