What sort of apprenticeship The 4 types of apprenticeships in the UK should I look for? Apprenticeships are age related so some are for age 16, others for age 18 and others 21+. The age restrictions are to do with health & safety rules, skills such as needing to be able to drive or the level of education required When leaving Winchcombe school you will first look for an Intermediate or Advanced apprenticeship BUT you may prefer to study for A-levels or a college course and then apply for a Higher level Level Equivalent to Length of time apprenticeship. Intermediate Level 2 GCSE’s 12-18 months Start dates vary – apprenticeships do not Advanced level 3 A-levels 2 years run alongside school dates! Make sure you check out when you start. You may need to do a short educational course or Higher level 4/5 Foundation degree/Certificate of 3-6 years voluntary work placement until the education apprenticeship begins. Degree level 6/7 Degree / post graduate Masters 3-6 years

Current Year 11s: If you’re on course for 5 good GCSE’s including Maths, English and a science – preferably Physics - at Level 4 or above, you could apply for an Electronic/Electrical Apprenticeship at Ontic in Cheltenham starting in September. Word of mouth… Ask around. Do your family/ relatives/ friends/ teachers etc… know of anyone working in an industry sector that has vacancies being advertised/ or coming up? Could they pass on your C.V.? This can be one of the easiest starting points when searching for an apprenticeship vacancy. If an employer agrees to setting up an apprenticeship for you, they can contact a college to link with a course AND they may be eligible for funding (https://www.gov.uk/employing-an-apprentice/get-funding)
