District Process Overview • PSD continues to review guidance from OSPI, WIAA, Governor’s office, and state and local Dept. of Health • Collaborator meetings informed the priority needs of students, families, and staff • 5 meetings • 250+ participants • Family survey provided information on top safety concerns • 2,900+ responses received • Feedback was collected on an initial springboard plan through a series of building level staff meetings • 29 meetings • 1,100+ participants • Townhall meetings provided additional input for our plan • 3 meetings (1 in Spanish) • 280 + participants • A series of 23 focus groups are scheduled this week to address specific tasks/topics needed to complete the reopening plan

Springboard Plan: Band &Choir General Considerations • Identification of shared materials/equipment that can be used within the guidance • Teaching space will be determined based on size of face-to-face sessions • Shared equipment sanitization practices will follow guidelines • Priority standards will be considered for face-to-face learning vs. at-home learning • SEL connections to music instruction will be considered a top priority • Student and teacher instruction on proper use of personal protective equipment
Springboard Plan: Band & Choir Health & Safety Guidelines • Written & posted protocols for routines and safety for all students attending while on site • Health and Safety expectations posted: Handwashing/coughing etc. • Wearing of Masks/Face Shields at all times unless an exception • Six feet distancing – facing forward • Collection and cleaning procedures established of any equipment used prior to reusing • No sharing of equipment unless cleaned between individual use • Shared teacher station/materials will be sanitized between use • Instrument cleaning and disinfecting taught and practiced

Springboard Plan: Choir General Guidelines for Instruction What do we need to do to operate choir classrooms following the State Public & Safety Guidelines? • Choir standards consist of more than performance standards- there are many standards that may still be addressed while staying within the guidelines in a Face-to-Face model. • Building foundational music reading skills, including syntax, rhythm, melody and harmony • Encouraging musical exploration and creativity through improvisation and composition • Empowering students to appreciate and understand the historical, cultural and societal impact of vocal and choral music upon diverse communities of people • Understanding the relationship of choir within the wider realm of music education, and as an essential arm of interdisciplinary fine arts • Incorporating culturally-responsive platforms for teaching and learning” • Face-to-Face instruction supports the at-home portion • Online platform specific to music • At-home learning supports the performance standards not able to be addressed while complying with guidance (wearing of masks, singing, etc.)
