NANZ 2019 Renaissance: Future Therapies In Neurology The utilization of novel future therapies to tackle various neurological diseases will be the pervading theme at the 19th annual meeting of the Neurological Association of New Zealand (NANZ), to be held in the fabulous city of Hamilton from Thursday, November 7th to Friday, November 8th, 2019. We are delighted to present two renowned keynote speakers. Dr Thomas Oxley is an interventional neurologist in the Department of Neurosurgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, a laboratory head of the Vascular Bionics Laboratory at the University of Melbourne, and the founding CEO of Synchron, a pioneering company in the field of minimally invasive brain-computer interface technology; Thomas is a world expert on endovascular bionics. Dr Bruce Campbell is a stroke neurologist and stroke lead at the Department of Neurology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, a professorial fellow in the Melbourne Brain Centre at the University of Melbourne, and a director and chair of the Clinical Council for the Stroke Foundation; Bruce was co-principal investigator and medical co-ordinator of EXTEND-IA, a landmark, multi-centre randomized trial of endovascular clot retrieval following standard intravenous thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke. In addition to the keynote speakers, NANZ 2019 will expand on previous conferences by adding in parallel sessions designed to increase the total number of speakers. Thus, a greater number of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and neuropsychologists throughout New Zealand will attend and present at NANZ 2019 compared to previous conferences. Moreover, a large venue for exhibition booths has been arranged for NANZ 2019; the Atrium at WINTEC is a modern, spacious venue that will allow us to complement our increased number of speakers and attendees with a concordant increase in representation from our pharmaceutical representatives. Venue NANZ 2019 will take place at the ultra modern Waikato Institute of Technology (WINTEC), a spacious facility located in central Hamilton, and will consist of morning plenary lectures and afternoon parallel sessions. Conference presentations will be dedicated to various subtopics of neurology, but there will also be presentations dedicated to neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and neuropsychology. Given the large venue size and parallel session format, submissions for presentations and posters are encouraged from all registrars, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and neuropsychologists throughout New Zealand.
