MEET YOUR 2022 ABOS BOARD
                                OF DIRECTOR NOMINEES

Vice President/President/Past President (3 year term)

My name is Brittany Peacock and I am running for Vice President/President-Elect of
ABOS. A little about me, I work for the Davenport Public Library in Iowa where I
oversee the amazing Community Outreach Department as the Supervisor. My team
is responsible for delivering materials to senior outreach facilities, driving our Out-
reach Wheeled Library (OWL) to community events and parks for pop-library visits
and other programming, providing storytimes and deposit collections to daycares
and preschools, and all of the marketing for the Library. My passion is to be where
the people are and I find that I do my best work when I am OWLT and About (a
phrase we have coined to be on brand!) getting to know our community and
Brittany Peacock spreading our message that the Library is for EVERYONE! A little about where I
came from, I grew up in a small rural town and began working at the age of 16 in
our county Library. From there, I worked in my college Library at Coe College in
Cedar Rapids while I pursued a degree in History and Sociology. After graduating, I
worked for one year outside of a Library setting and quickly found that the Library
was home. In 2013, I accepted a Youth Services Supervisor Position in Mount Pleas-
ant, IA and called that home for 5 years. I owe so much to that position because
that is what sparked my love for Outreach. While working for MPPL, I began getting
my MLIS through Louisiana State University and graduated in 2017 with an empha-
sis in Youth Librarianship. In 2017, my husband and I moved to Davenport and the
rest is history. When I am not outreaching, I enjoy family time with my husband,
two children, our basset hounds and cat.

Secretary (1 year term) I n random order

Greetings fellow ABOS Members. My name is Karen Bradley. I have been the Mobile
Services Librarian for Arapahoe Libraries in Colorado since 2014 and have been a
member of ABOS since I learned about the organization. My passion for outreach
and love for this organization has only grown over the years. I have presented multi-
ple times, been part of the Elections Committee, Conference Planning Committee,
Technology Committee, ABOS Board of Directors as a Member at Large, and most
recently served on the ABOS Executive Board of Directors as Secretary. As part of
the Conference Planning Committee, I have been Chair or Co-Chair for presentations
since 2019. In 2020 I was part of the Board of Directors that planned our first suc-
Karen Bradley (Incumbent) cessful virtual conference. I was Presentations Chair for the 2021 virtual conference,
"Jazz Up Your Outreach which successfully saw over 1,000 attendees and had a
staggering 50 presentation options. Additionally, as part of the Technology Commit-
tee I moderated multiple presentations throughout the conference. As Secretary in
2021 I was successfully able to promote outreach and the ABOS organization. I
worked diligently to perform the duties outlined in the Secretary job description, par-
ticularly meeting notetaking, records maintenance, and general correspondence. I
am hoping to continue as Secretary for 2022 in order to further provide support to
the board and be a friendly face to all of our members.

My name is Kathy Dejnowski. My current experience as the Children’s and Teens Ser-
vice Librarian and Head of Outreach Services here at Thornton Public Library for al-
most 10 years has given me the opportunity to learn many skills that I believe would
be a benefit as Secretary for Outreach Services, skills such as, organization and com-
munication, good writing and typing skills, and a good sense of professionalism. My
previous experiences are as follows: Secretary for the Wolcott Elementary School
Board for five years, the Thornton Community PTA for three years and am currently
the secretary for a second year for the Children’s Librarians Association of the South
Suburbs Committee. I believe you can always learn more and as a Secretary for the
Association of Bookmobiles and Outreach Services board, I could learn so much more
from the association board and its personnel. Outreach is extremely important for
Kathy Dejnowski community engagement as well as keeping communities informed and put to date on
library information, programs, and more which is the goal of anyone wishing to pro-
vide library services to their community.

Secretary (1 year term) I n random order
I am currently a Board Member at Large of ABOS and Senior Library Manager at
Chinn Park Library. After receiving my MLIS from SJSU, I have worked in public
libraries serving all ages in urban and suburban settings from Las Vegas Nevada,
several systems in Southwest Ohio and currently Northern Virginia. I held positions
such as Outreach Services Manager, Bookmobile Manager, Branch Manager and
Senior Library Manager. I am currently a Board Member at Large of ABOS first
elected to the ABOS Board in 2018. I also am the Chairman of the BOIR Committee
having served on this committee since 2016. A recent ABOS Past President said
“Zach’s passion and advocacy for Outreach is clear” in that he is passionate about
Outreach in libraries, he is active in several professional associations, and has a
vast network of contacts in the profession while remaining open, engaged, and in-
Zach Roberts spired by the work we do in libraries of all types. I look forward to the opportunity
to continue to serve on the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services Board
of Directors and advocate for Outreach in Libraries wherever I can.

                                  OF DIRECTOR NOMINEES
                   Board Member-at-large (2 year term) I n random order
My name is Jenn Koetz, and I am the Bookmobile Operator for Brown County Library in
Green Bay, Wisconsin. I have served in this role full-time for the past three years; and
prior to being full-time in outreach services with the library I served as an Administration
Associate and as a Senior Library Assistant. Although I came to the library as a second
career, I could not imagine anything other than working in outreach services. Serving
community members outside of the traditional library walls by bringing our services and
resources directly to them is such an honor and privilege. I love offering our community
members the very same services and experiences as though they were in one of our
physical libraries including presenting story times, readers advisory, lending items, an-
swering reference questions, providing tutorials on technology devices or sites, and inter-
Jenn Koetz (incumbent) acting with all who come to our outreach locations. Representing the library to an aver-
age of 10,000 customers annually is such a joy, and a responsibility that I do not take
lightly. Through the Association of Bookmobile & Outreach Services I have been able to
connect, learn and grow so much in the field of outreach during the past two years as a
member. Being part of this professional organization has been so much greater than con-
necting and building a network of fellow colleagues; it has truly meant becoming part of
a family that learns, grows, and supports each other unconditionally. During this past
year I have had the honor of serving as an ABOS Board Member-At-Large, as the Chair of
the ABOS Continuing Education Committee, and on the ABOS Conference Program Selec-
tion Team. In addition, I serve on the ABOS Technology Committee and ABOS Confer-
ence Planning Committee. Being able to serve our members and help bring ABOS forward
is such an honor and privilege. As an ABOS Board Member-At-Large I will continue to
strive to work closely with the ABOS membership to help each other learn, grow and pro-
vide support in outreach services to better serve our communities. Please know that I am
always just a phone call, text message or email away to work with and support you as an
                          ABOS Member.

Hello! My name is Angela Smith but I go by Angie. I have been with McLean County
Public Library located in Livermore, KY, for 8 years. I was previously employed with
the county school system for 18 years. I started out as a summer bookmobile driver
while school was out and then the director created this position and I accepted. I
have been married for 32 years, have two wonderful daughters with wonderful hus-
bands and three grandchildren. I am a member of ABOS, ALA and ARSL along with
our state KLA. McLean County Public Library celebrated its 10 year anniversary this
past May. Our library was the last public library formed in the state of Kentucky.
During the past 8 years, we have ranked number one in the state for Children’s pro-
gramming per capita four years straight along with several other programs in the
top 20 of the state. Not only do I work with the director in developing programs, I
also drive the bookmobile and still visit the 3 elementary schools for story time and
also the middle and high school for students to check out books. Betsy Blue, my
bookmobile, is a 1999 Bread Truck (Chevy) that has a mind of her own. When she
gets tired of visiting patrons, she has a tendency to take spa days at our local me-
Angela Smith chanics. With the COVID issue the last year, our Outreach has stepped up a few
notches with porch drops and more deliveries to our senior adults to keep them
safe. Summer Reading 2020 resulted in 526 porch drops delivered by the director
and myself. To keep patrons reading, new ways to get to them was developed. And
to this day, we are still reaching our patrons in new and unconventional ways. Go
                          the extra mile.

                 Board Member-at-large (2 year term) I n random order

Hello, my name is Colleen Segers. I am currently wrapping up my MLIS at the Uni-
versity of South Florida. My decision to pursue this degree, join ABOS, as well as
volunteer for this board position stem from the same boiling point, my experience
as a library media specialist in our local public schools. Having worked prior to and
through the pandemic at the secondary schools in our district, I’ve seen firsthand
the great need for outreach services in the public-school domain and I would like
to take part in public awareness of the role, and potential role, that ABOS plays in
outreach literacy. During the pandemic I was both deliverer and organizer of mak-
ing sure that the students in my school had books in hand during the most isolated
days, whether they had internet connectivity or not. Although the more immediate
needs of student’s literacy are now being addressed (at least in my state) via in-
person instruction, this crisis has shown me that reaching out to those that some-
times have no voice will not be addressed without help from those that do. My pre-
vious work background touches upon many disciplines – graphic art, legal work,
Colleen Segers marketing and over a decade spent as a military spouse (a life experience that en-
compasses so many aptitudes it is difficult to fully explain) – that would, hopefully,
be beneficial to ABOS’s mission. As a parent, teacher, librarian and concerned com-
munity member I would very much like to be a part of the 2022 ABOS Board and
ask for your support. Thank you.

Hello fellow ABOS members, my name is Angela Clarke and I am asking for your
support and vote for my run for the Board Member-at-Large position. I have
worked at the Warren Newport Public Library District in Gurnee, Illinois for over
11 years. I began as a shelver and worked my way through the Circulation and
Adult Services departments before finding my home in Outreach five years ago.
Within Outreach, I started as a Senior Outreach Associate for one year before
assuming the Department Head role. I earned my MLIS in May of 2018 at Domin-
ican University and I have earned a BS in Psychology from the University of
Dubuque. In 2019, I was a member of the planning committee and host for the
B’LONG Bookmobile Round Up where we had a record turnout. I truly enjoy see-
ing the growth that is currently happening in Outreach work and being a part of
Angela Clarke the evolving work that we all contribute to. I feel that being a part of the ABOS
Board would allow me to continue to be involved in this forward movement.
                             Thank you for your consideration.

                Board Member-at-large (2 year term) I n random order

The importance of outreach and advocacy for libraries is hard to exaggerate. As
we all know, positive library experiences can lead to life-long library users and
advocates. ABOS is an invaluable resource and support system for anyone in out-
reach services, providing continuing education, networking, and an opportunity to
share and collaborate with similarly-passionate colleagues from near and far. With
2020, a new normal emerged, and with it, a paradigm shift in library, and espe-
cially outreach services. Now more than ever we need the connections and sup-
port of our partners and colleagues and ABOS is rising to the challenge -- facilitat-
ing relationships and innovation. As a part of the ABOS Board, I will strive to sup-
port and expand this essential interchange of ideas and education for which ABOS
is so well-known. Currently I am a Member of ABOS Technology Committee and
am serving as the Chair of the New York State Battle of the Books Planning Com-
mittee with New York Library Association and Vice President of Westchester Li-
brary System Battle of the Books. In addition I am proud to have served: Confer-
Liz Anastasi ence Planner/Director for the 2019 Annual Conference for New York Library Asso-
ciation Youth Services Section; President, VP, Conference Planner, and Secretary
of the Westchester Library Association; and founding President and long-time
board member of the Westchester Library System Battle of the Books.

I am currently working as a Library Administrator in the City of Santa Clarita,
where I get the privilege of leading a team that prioritizes the needs of their com-
munity, strives to increase literacy and is dedicated to making impactful relation-
ships with the public. From the formation of pop up library services at local pre-
schools, senior centers and community centers, to bringing Library services
curbside during a pandemic, access to materials and connecting people with re-
sources and community services has been the most rewarding part of my job for
many years. I am currently working to secure a grant and funding for our City’s
first outreach vehicle, which will serve newly annexed and newly developed areas
within our city, as well as increase the quality and quantity of programming and
materials in our current pop up library program. I graduated from SJSU with an
MLIS degree, following the completion of my BA in Political Science at University
of California Riverside. I have always had a passion for reaching those who need
support the most. I worked with LGBTQ+ youth, served as a Teen Librarian in ,
Gina Roberson an Adult Literacy Specialist, and an Adult Services Librarian prior to settling into
my role in administration. From the formation of pop up library services at local
preschools, senior centers and community centers, to bringing Library services
curbside during a pandemic, access and connecting people with resources and
community services has been the most rewarding work of my career.

My name is Carlotta A. Young. I am the Library Supervisor 1 at Enoch Pratt Free Library in Balti-
more, Maryland. I have served as Mobile Services Supervisor at Enoch Pratt Free Library for
over twenty-five years. My undergraduate degree is in Mass Communications (Radio Broad-
casting) and my Masters Degree is from the University of Pittsburgh in Library Science. During
my tenure at Pratt Library I have held the position of Children’s Librarian, Young Adult Librarian,
and Adult Librarian. I have found that my most enjoyable and rewarding job has been that of an
Outreach Librarian. I enjoy in making a difference in the underserved communities in Baltimore
City. I have been a member of ABOS since the early days of the conference being held in Ohio
and fondly remember Professor Vavrek and John Phillip providing advocacy and stewardship for
novice outreach librarians. I have previously served as a member of the BOIR Committee and
Membership Committees for ABOS, and would like to learn more of the policies and procedures
Carlotta A. Young of ABOS and steer the organization into the future of Outreach Services.

Helen Keller once said, "alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." My career did-
n't begin in libraries, it began with community. I graduated from Governors State University
with my undergraduate degree in Communications with a dual specialty of Advertising & Public
Relations. As an ad/PR professional, I've always been passionate about doing the legwork by
putting myself out in the field with the community to create partnerships and lifelong consum-
ers. Now that I work in libraries, it's an even bigger world than that. I fell in love with it so
much, I advanced quickly to Head of Adult Services and perform the majority of adult/senior
and library-wide outreach at the North Riverside Public Library. To strengthen these skills, I be-
gan attending graduate school at San José State University and anticipate graduating with my
MLIS in Spring of 2023. My favorite thing about working in libraries is that moment when a pa-
Marla Curran tron realizes we aren't a brick & mortar organization anymore. When a senior asks to use the
Makerspace or check out an iPad, I am inspired by their willingness to learn new things. When
we realize that we learn from our patrons as much as they learn from us, that's how we contin-
ue to build meaningful relationships in the public service field.

My name is Maggie Petersen and I’ve been working in Outreach and Community Ser-
vices for over a decade. I started as a summer intern and then jumped to working as a
contract employee with 10 hours a week facilitating our After School Program. That
grew into becoming a part time and then later the full time Outreach Specialist. In Jan-
uary 2022 I will be the interim Outreach and Community Engagement Manager, just in
time to roll out our new bookmobile program! Along the way I’ve learned there are no
small jobs in outreach, each person working in this field brings immense value to not
just their local community but to the field as a whole. ABOS is a critical entity is en-
couraging the vital and enriching work we all do. I currently manage and coordinate a
small team that provides our After School Program book club which operates local mid-
dle schools in underserved areas and meets around 800 students annually. I also plan
Maggie Petersen and facilitate book clubs in several incarceration facilities with the goal of building read-
er confidence and foster relationships with participants’ local libraries that they can ac-
cess after reentry. I have extensive experience working with community partners on
both small and large scales to create programs and projects that serve our community
through the lens of literacy. Two of these projects I’m most proud of are our “The Giv-
er” (https://youtu.be/creqYEfjdD4) and “Brazen” (https://youtu.be/tdX-elGYpQQ) pro-
jects. Outreach and Bookmobile services are essential functions of any library and by
taking the best we have to offer out into the communities who need us most, we are
demonstrating our core values and missions in real time. I believe in the work ABOS is
doing to support libraries and outreach efforts and as a board member-at-large I want
to help propel this mission forward.

Hi I am Kim, my husband Dan and I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren and we live
on a small farm in Millerton PA. I am an avid outdoors person, loving horses, camping,
quilting and playing piano. I started my outreach adventure at the Chemung County
Library District in 2007 as a full time Bookmobile driver. I travel all over Chemung
County making stops at Day cares, Head starts, private schools, senior facilities, high-
rises, community stops, community events and festivals. I conduct story times on the
bus where the children come on the bus, then pick a book until I come back in 2
weeks. In 2015 I started an adult Book club the 2nd Tuesday of the month on the bus.
My duties include but not limited to driving, ordering material and books, story times,
programs and community events. I have been a member of the ABOS sense 2008
when I attended my first ABOS conference and have been to several others including
the last two virtual one. In 2012 I was a presenter and brought our Bookmobile with
me to Richmond Virginia conference. I have served on the Continuing Ed Committee
for 2020 & 2021 and also currently on the membership committee 2021. I currently
Kim Jones serve as the Secretary of our union board of directors for 10 years. I am a certified 19A
examiner for NY state. I love my job and being a part of the ABOS family where I
would absolutely be proud to serve on the ABOS board as a member at large.

Liverpool Public Library, located in Liverpool, New York. My responsibilities include
supervising a staff of six with a focus on Community Engagement, Adult and Teen
programming - in and out of the building - and collaboration with the Youth Ser-
vices department. I have been with LPL since the spring of 2018 and thoroughly
enjoy bringing in new community partners and expanding our services to all within
my area. We currently utilize a small van - LPL2GO- for books by delivery to senior
residences and home bound users, as well as fairs and festivals within my service
area and the county. During the summer months, I also coordinate a regular
schedule to local parks and community organizations with the LPL2GO Book Bike.
Many assume we are an ice cream vendor so I like to play off that with fun ice
cream themed activities and bookmarks! Prior to my current position, I worked full
time as a Technology and Job Information Librarian at The Mundy Branch Library,
which is located in the heart of Syracuse, NY. A hub for the urban community, I
B. Maggie Foster helped users with their workforce needs, such as job applications and resumes.
That experience has really helped me understand and better serve all of my users,
throughout the county library system. I also have experience as a reference librari-
an and a children’s librarian. Outreach storytimes remain a favorite of mine even
now. As a graduate of the Library and Information Science program at Syracuse
University (G’13), I happily made Syracuse, NY, my forever home after graduation.
I enjoy living and working in and around Onondaga County. It is a crazy awesome
hodge-podge of urban, suburban, and rural, libraries. And many of my library coun-
terparts enjoy brainstorming with me on cool new outreach projects that give a
voice to all of our communities.

Kasandra (Kassy) Trejo, I am a Bookmobile Assistant at Skokie Public Library. I have
worked here since 2012, first as a Shelver and then as a Bookmobiler. Since starting
in the bookmobile, my primary focus has been serving the Skokie community. I have
been part of other parts of the Library, understanding how things work and learning
different things. My other experience has been as a Shelver, a Circulation Clerk, Re-
ceiving and Processing new materials. All these other positions have helped me un-
derstand the importance of teamwork, both within the Bookmobile and the Library
and other communities in the areas surrounding Skokie. How important our jobs are
to our community and how to better perform them. Besides driving the bookmobile,
one of the many things I enjoy doing is keeping up with the collection. Keeping
things up to date, adding more than one would have thought or had room for, or re-
questing books that the selectors didn’t order for the bookmobile, keeping and updat-

ing the bookmobiles extra books for themes or holidays that can be brought out at
any moment. I am an avid reader; my main interest has always been reading chil-
dren’s and teen books, and I love picture books, graphic novels, and manga. I love to
talk to patrons about children’s books and recommend tons of books for them. My
passion has always been reading, and I love to share that with anyone or suggest
things they wouldn’t have thought of themselves. I am always reading about new
books, old books, or books that will come out in a couple of months.

                Board Member-at-large (2 year term) I n random order
I have been working in public libraries since 2006 and in outreach since October 2019.
In my current roll at the Iowa City Public Library, where I began my professional jour-
ney, I work on providing outreach services as well as driving the bookmobile and bring
the library closer to where my community lives. The pandemic has shown me the im-
portance of libraries in people's lives. It isn't just the services and information we pro-
vide, it is the connections. The library, or bookmobile, is more than the books you check
out. Its getting seniors necessary social engagement if they live alone. Its giving new
moms a space to talk to others about their frustrations before and after storytime. Its
providing teens somewhere they can go to be their true selves when they might not
even know what that means. If the Library is the heart of the community than I feel it
my duty to keep the blood pumping strong! As I begin to find my way in my career it is
essential to me to be able to help my community and the best way I have found is
through my work at the Iowa City Public Library and advocating for the work I do wher-
Frances Owens ever I go. Serving ABOS is an essential way to keep myself active in that work, share
ideas with colleagues near and far, and help others find their own way in this field.

“Hi, I’m Wayne and I have the most fun job in the library.” That’s one of my favorite
ways to introduce myself when I meet new library folks. I’ve been with the Franklin
County (VA) Library a little more than 8yrs. now. What started as a simple part-time job
has morphed into a second career. With school bus driving experience under my belt, an
unexpected opening for a Bookmobile driver caused the Library Director to tap me for
the needed substitute. My ‘circ desk gig’ quickly became much more. Since then, we
have significantly increased Bookmobile circulation and visibility in the community. We
have successfully added nearly 90% of our elementary schools, our middle school, mul-
tiple private schools, daycares, nursing homes, and assisted living locations in those first
4 yrs. While maintaining our original patron base, we began a strong effort and multiple
community partnerships to focus on advancing our community presence. We’ve had
great fun with events like; ‘Movies-on-the-Move’, ‘National Night Out’, Community ‘Truck
-or-Treat’ events, ‘Touch-a-Truck’ events, Community holiday parades and celebrations,
and many others. We also initiated our summer highlight of ‘Bookyard Parties’, targeting
area housing developments with limited access to our buildings. In 2017 we began our
Wayne Keith Library Express service, providing library materials to homebound residents. A second
vehicle added in 2019 was great timing as COVID curtailed our Bookmobile outreach and
amplified the need for the Express model. Our latest addition is a 24Hr Library Kiosk lo-
cation that falls under our watchful eye. Besides work, I like to . . . work. I preach in
local church and have done that in a variety of places for nearly 30 yrs. I have been
married to my beautiful wife, Susan, for 32 yrs. We have 2 great kids, a great son-in-law
                          and one awesome grandson.
MEET YOUR 2022 ABOS BOARD
                                    OF DIRECTOR NOMINEES

                   Board Member-at-large (2 year term) I n random order
My name is Alicia M. Rodriguez and I would like to be considered as a nominee for a
position of board member at large. I have been a member of ABOS for the last 4 years.
My first conference was at Omaha and it was a great conference I met lots of people
who share the passion of outreach. As a bilingual outreach librarian I have learned the
importance of being out in the community and sharing all the programs and services
out libraries have for them for FREE! It is very difficult to see Free but I have seen
some of the community come in to our branches or I have seen them at other events
and they are thankful for the services but we are still not getting everyone to come in
and take advantage of these services and programs. My experience working with the
Spanish community would be a valuable asset to the ABOS board as I understand the
fears and concerns the Latinx community has and I can provide insight in how to better
serve our underserved communities and advocate for them. I would like to represent
Alicia Rodriguez my library system in Los Angeles as it is one of the largest cities to the Latinx communi-
ty. I'd also like to see myself reflected on those librarians who feel they don't have any-
thing to offer or are afraid to serve on any type of committee. I am branching out and
taking a risk and know I have lots to contribute but most importantly I would like to
                            support ABOS in its mission.

I'll be celebrating my fourth anniversary as a bookmobile associate at the end of this No-
vember. I've attended the ABOS conference three of those four years. I joined commit-
tees at my very first one. I was pulled in by the instant community, so rich with
knowledge and spirit. The depth of which I don't think we'll ever find due to the con-
sistent growth made possible by our vast and vibrant network of mobile outreach work-
ers. It is a joy and privilege to contribute to it. Participating in whatever capacity I can be
is simply doing my part to support this precious resource. It would be an honor to serve
ABOS as a board member-at-large if only to reinvest the graciousness and opportunities
this vital organization has given me.
