MAY BANNER Hilton Baptist Church Dear Friends and Family of Hilton Baptist Church, Please forgive me if this article sounds like a commercial, but I must share with you a show I am hooked on and I would encourage you to watch it. I believe it will feed your soul. Do not be surprised if I make reference to it in future sermons, or if it shows up as a sermon series. The show is called “The Chosen” and it is the story of Jesus and his choosing the twelve disciples to follow him in fulfilling his purpose. I am always a bit hesitant to watch shows like this because the storyline can seem stale and predictable, while the acting feels somewhat amateur and not quite believable. I have not found this at all in “The Chosen”. This series is engaging and fresh in new and interesting ways. The characters are easy to relate to and it is intri- guing to watch the various personalities interact with Jesus and each other. I am not going to comment on the Jesus character because you should discover him for yourself, just as the disciples are learning to do so in this series. There is a catch to this series that might prove difficult for some of you. This is not a show you can find on televi- sion, it was designed to be watched on your phone. Here are the four ways you can see it: (1) On your phone, go to the app store and search “The Chosen”. This is a free app you can download and you can begin watching it right away. If you are “technologically savvy” there is a way to use your phone to watch through your television if you have the right equipment, but I admit Karen had to figure this out because I do not have the patience. If watching it on your television through your phone is more appealing, you may have to find someone who can show you how it’s done (but don’t ask me as I have no clue!) (2) You can also watch it by going to this website: https://watch.angelstudios.com/thechosen (3) If you are familiar with YouTube, search for The Chosen Season 1 and Season 2. There are various episodes for each season. (4) Purchase the DVD. So far, there are only two seasons and the theme for season #2 is “Come and See”. This is my invitation to you, “Come and see The Chosen”. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Be Still, Dan Volume 80, Issue 5

Caring Cooks News... The Caring Cooks thank you for your support for our drive-thru meals. Every month we have sold 100 plus meals. The proceeds from these meals have gone to the general fund to support our Church activities. We have a wonderful team of willing hands who stir, chop and slice to prepare these meals. I am so grate- ful for each of you (as we literally couldn't do it without you), and the culinary expertise of Debbie McCracken and Sue McLean. Thanks to our backdoor delivery people, to our Unionville delivery man and to Dawn for advertising and sign prep. This past month Dawn Comden and Heidi Barrett answered the congregational call for "potato slicers” and even Pastor Dan on Sunday morning rolled up his sleeves to help wash the 50 pounds of potatoes. Thanks to all! Next month will be the Caring Cooks final meal, before we take a break for the summer. The meal will be Sloppy Joes, sides and dessert. The Renovation Team will be hosting an Italian Sausage meal in June. Beginning in the fall, we will be modifying our meal schedule and not hosting a meal every month. Our hope is that maybe 1 or 2 other HBC Committees, Departments or Groups will host a meal to fill in the months. We are also looking into possibly using an outside venue to supply a meal. Many of us are finding that because we are involved with other committees and groups within the church, we are being stretched thin. The Caring Cooks Group will commit to a few times a year to continue to support our Church budget. We are always looking for new helping hands and smiling faces to join our team! ~Diane Thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting our Chocolate Sale! It’s been a lot of fun! Deepest gratitude to all who donated, purchased or helped in other ways to make this event a huge success! We made $399. Look for another Chocolate Sale in the fall! Hilton Baptist Church Strong! Hilton Baptist Church will be participating in the Community-Wide Garage Sale Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22 At this point, the plan is to hold our rummage/garage sale in the Lloyd Room (Fellowship Hall) during one of our craziest, busiest and most complicated periods that we’ve ever known at our church. The plan is as follows: On Sunday, May 16th, immediately following the worship service, we (as many volunteers as we can find) will be clearing the Lloyd Room and setting up tables. (We need to make sure that we have a plan to return the chairs to the same locations after the sale. We also need to make sure that sound room equipment is secure during the sale.) Anyone who has items that they might like to donate (understanding that we tend to sell things at a ridiculous- ly low price) may bring those items to us that afternoon. (If you absolutely must bring them sooner, please let me know. Every inch of the church is being utilized in some way – storage, renovation, wedding…. and we will need to find a place to tuck donations out of the way. Note: Items must be clean and in very good condi- tion. We will not have time to clean them.) We will also begin sorting items and organizing them on Sunday, May 16. The next four days will be devoted to organizing and pricing. (Monday-Thursday) We will open at 9:00 on Friday, May 21 and remain open until 5:00. We will open at 9:00 on Saturday, May 22 and remain open until Noon. (This timing is a bit flexible. We need to shut down early on Saturday in order to have enough time to set the Lloyd Room up for the service on Sun- day. Everything will need to be cleared out. At the time of this writing, I’ve not been able to find an organization to come in and take everything that remains. I’ll continue looking but – if I can’t, I may be looking for vehicles to load for a trip to the Salvation Army/Goodwill. There is likely to be a bag sale at 11:00 or there-abouts to clear out as much as we can.) We are not creating a sign-up sheet to help. No one likes committing (including me). We will, however, be sending emails and reminders that your help would be appreciated, if possible. If you can, great. If you can’t, we totally understand. (Prayers will be appreciated. And if you can spread the word, that would be helpful too. We really hope for a lot of sales so that this time spent will benefit our church.) Will there be a baked food sale also? If we can get a volunteer to take care of that portion of the sale, yes. If not, no. We would like to take every opportunity during this event to help our budget, but we recognize that people are busy. And: Yes, we will be implementing rules to mitigate COVID concerns. Masks will be required and hand sanitizer will be available. And, yes, we understand that this is disruptive during an already disruptive time – but our hope is that it will keep items out of the landfill, let our neighbors know that we are here for them, and put a little bit into our budget. Email me with questions and concerns or contact a member of the Outreach Department! Thanks! Jayne Gerega Volume 80, Issue 5 Page 9
April 4 ~ Quilt Raffle Thanks go out to all who purchased tickets for this beautiful Quilt made and donated by Debbie McCracken. Raffle proceeds went towards the Sanctuary Renovation Project. Special thanks to Lydia for helping us pick our winner. Ken we hope you enjoy your new Quilt!! I'd like to thank the members and friends of the Hilton Baptist Church for remembering my 90th Birthday with an overwhelming number of Birthday cards along with the sign in our front yard, followed by the "drive-by" after church. It was fun!! Pastor Dan and others stepped out of their vehicles to extend personal greetings, even in the rain. It was a Busy and Long day that I won't soon forget. Thank you again for remembering me and heading me into the next decade. ~Jim Shott Congratulations to the following couples on your 25th Anniversary… Christopher & Danielle Roach May 18, 1996 Deb & Rob Hebing May 18, 1996 Page 10 May Banner
