May 19, 2021 During National Library Week (April 4 - 10) Commuter Services of Pennsylvania hosted their Library Week Competition! In this competition libraries compete to see which institution promotes green travel. The competition includes logging green trips taken by staff, which can include carpooling, walking, riding a bicycle, or bringing a brown bagged lunch. In addition, libraries can earn extra points by creating a display to encourage green travel, doing a transportation storytime, and displaying posters from Commuter Services of Pennsylvania. For 2021 Bosler logged 71 green trips! Staff also did a special YouTube transportation storytime and set up a display of collection materials related to travel. All these actions led Bosler to an impressive first place finish! As a reward Bosler earned a small collection of children's books, with both English and Spanish translations. Join us this June as Kitty Jones performs her one-woman show titled, "Mother Nature”. “Mother Nature” packs a powerful message with her depiction of the natural world. Combining ecology with mythology, Mother Nature and her friend, The Fairy Queen, teach the importance of preservation. After being informed by the Fairy Queen that some "animal" is harming our ecosystems, Mother Nature heads off to find the offending mammal. Northeast habitats such as a pond, a forest and the sea shore are depicted using both indigenous animal and imaginary "fairy life". Through stories, dance, and improvisation, emphasis is placed on how humans impact various ecosystems, how conservation is our responsibility, and how the delicate balance of ecosystems is revealed. This presentation of “Mother Nature” will be offered virtually, via the Kit’s Interactive Theatre YouTube channel. Registration is required. Once you register, you will receive an email with the link to the program, which will be available from June 14 through June 21, for you to watch at your convenience. If not, there’s still time! By making a donation directly to Bosler Memorial Library, your gift starts working right away to help people like Sarah, a Carlisle High School student. “I like to go to the library to get away from the busyness of life and do my schoolwork. It’s a quiet place to go with little to no distractions so I can get a lot done.” – Sarah Sheperd Even though many of us are getting vaccinated, and we are beginning to see things return to some early semblance of normal, there are still so many workers unemployed, students struggling with online learning, and others coping without Internet access. While Bosler Library can’t help the sick get better, we are here to help students like Sarah looking for a quiet place to study on days when she is not in school. You also help families of young children learning how to read, people without home Internet, tax payers needing printed tax forms, and many others. Click here and select “Annual Fund for General Operations” to renew your support of Bosler Memorial Library with a financial gift by June 30. Your support today will help us meet our goal of $15,000 this spring to keep the Library open and serving the greater Carlisle community. Every dollar you give is an investment in literacy and lifelong learning. Yes, you DO make a difference!
