San Francisco • District 9 • Community Calendar April -June 2022 To submit an event for the D9 newsletter/calendar, contact: jennifer.ferrigno@sfgov.org SF BIKE & ROLL TO SCHOOL WEEK April 18-22 | At participating schools Organized by the SF Bicycle Coalition, as part of the SF Safe Routes to School Partnership, this is the city's biggest annual celebration of students getting to school under their own power! Biking, scooting, skating, wheelchairs, and even walking are all part of the action. For more info: sfbike.org/bikeandrollsf 16th STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT PRE-CONSTRUCTION COMMUNITY MEETING (virtual) April 20 (6:30 pm) As construction approaches for the 16th St. Improvement Project, we wanted to remind you about the upcoming virtual Pre- Construction Community Meeting. The goal of this meeting is to let the public know what to expect during construction, and how to be in touch with project staff for any issues that may come up. EVENT FOR MISSION PET FOOD PANTRY! April 30 (2 pm - 4 pm) | Mission Food Hub on Alabama Street between 19th and 20th Streets, Come out for a pint with your pet to celebrate and support the Mission pet food pantry! Mission Food Hub and San Francisco Dog Owners Group (SFDOG) has been operating and funding a pet food pantry since the beginning of the pandemic, helping families in the Mission who need a hand feeding their pets. This program is essential and needs our support. San Francisco • District 9 • Announcements To submit an announcement for the D9 newsletter/calendar, contact: jennifer.ferrigno@sfgov.org STREET REPAIR IN BERNAL HEIGHTS April through November 2022 San Francisco Public Works has partnered with the SFPUC to complete infrastructure improvements in Bernal Heights including sewer, curb ramps, street base repairs, repaving, and also reconstruction of concrete streets. We anticipate work will begin at the first location, Lundy Street, in early April. Completion of work at the last location is anticipated in November 2023. For a full list of locations and contacts go to: sfpublicworks.org/vl52 LEGAL ASSISTANCE FOR RENTERS & TENANCY ADVOCACY The Bar Association of San Francisco/Justice & Diversity Center Are you struggling with a rental dispute? Need your landlord to make repairs? Need help applying for Covid-related rental assistance? The Tenancy Advocacy Project's (TAP) lawyers can help with those issues, as well as subsidy terminations, disability accommodations, income recertification, and other disputes with landlords or property managers. If you rent your home in San Francisco, you may be eligible for TAP's help. To contact us, please email us at tap@sfbar.org, or call (415) 989-1616. Please mention the Tenant Advocacy Project in your message, and make sure to include your name, phone number, best times to reach you, and a brief description of the tenancy-related issue(s) you are dealing with. BAY AREA MINORITY LAW Apply by May 27 SCHOLARSHIP 2022 Do you know someone interested in going to law school who could use financial assistance? The Bar Association of San Francisco and the Justice & Diversity Center are excited to announce that the 2022 Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarship applications are now open. In 21 years, the program has awarded more than $2 million to 110 students with scholarships that are generally $10,000 per year. Applications are due by May 27. SF Office of Small Business has announced two new grant programs to help San Francisco small businesses get resources for their storefronts. SF SHINES DESIGN SERVICES GRANT Now on rolling basis until funds are exhausted. SF Shines is San Francisco’s storefront improvement grant program for small businesses and nonprofits. Design Services grants aim to assist businesses in getting permit drawings for improvements to storefronts to help with compliance, safety, and business operations. Grantees will get access to a licensed architect who can ensure a project complies with applicable local, state, and federal laws and codes. Go to: sf.gov/sf-shines or email: sfshines@sfgov.org ADA INSPECTION GRANTS Apply anytime through June 30, 2022 This grant will pay for an inspection of your storefront from a Certified Access Specialist, licensed architect, or licensed engineer and help small businesses required by landlords to comply with accessibility projects.
