Emscher nordwärts IGA 2027 Future garden for the international garden exhibition Metropole Ruhr 2027 Once the centre of the coal and steel industry, today a modern living space An entire region is in the spotlight: at the IGA 2027, an international garden festival, the Metropolis Ruhr aims to prove that where mi- ning and heavy industry once shaped the image of the „coal pot“, a place with a high quality of life has emerged. The motto of this major event is „How do we want to live tomorrow?”. 200 individual projects provide the answers to this question. They are divided into the levels „My Garden“, „Our Gardens“ and „Future Gardens“. From industrial wasteland to urban quarter Such a future garden will take shape in Dortmund with the revival of the Hoesch-Spundwand-Werk. High-quality trade and innovative residential complexes are to settle on the industrial wasteland around a newly created lake. From there, a completely new urban quarter will be built on almost 200 hectares, from the Hansa coking plant and the Deusenberg to the Mooskamp railway station. Showcase project „The IGA is a good opportunity for Dortmund to position itself as part of the Ruhr area and to show what we can achieve in the shortest possible time,“ says Susanne Linnebach, Head of Urban Renewal Dortmund. Up to five million visitors could convince them- selves of this at the festival. The investments for the project amount to approximately 50 million Euros. The IGA 2027 is supported by 53 municipalities and four districts in the Ruhr area, the Emschergenossenschaft, representati- ves of the regional economy, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia Design: Reicher Haase Assoziierte M 1:5000 06 and numerous associations. www.economicdevelopment-dortmund.com
