Planning a Trip to the 2020
UEFA Super Cup
The 2020 UEFA Super Cup will be the 45th edition of the UEFA
Super Cup, an annual football match organised by UEFA and
contested by the reigning champions of the two main European
club competitions, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA
Europa League. The match will feature the winners of the
2019–20 UEFA Champions League and the 2019–20 UEFA Europa
League. It will be played at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto,
Portugal on 12 August 2020.

Completed in 2003, the ‘Dragon Stadium’ is the home of FC
Porto. The first UEFA competition matches at the ground were
in the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League knockout phase, José
Mourinho’s team making it through to the final that season and
beating Monaco 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen.

The Estádio do Dragão then held the opening game of UEFA EURO
2004 – Portugal’s 2-1 defeat by Greece – and has since seen
regular UEFA competition action involving both Porto and
Portugal. Part of a major leisure development in Porto, the
stadium has also been the venue for live performances by the
Rolling Stones, Coldplay and One Direction.

This will be the first UEFA final in Portugal since Lisbon’s
Estádio José Alvalade staged the 2005 UEFA Cup final; home
club Sporting CP actually lost that decider 3-1 against CSKA
Moskva. More recently, Lisbon’s Estádio do Sport Lisboa e
Benfica was the setting for the 2014 UEFA Champions League
final in which Real Madrid overcame city rivals Atlético 4-1
after extra time.

Donetsk – Shakhtar are currently playing their home games away
from the Donbass Arena and so City travel to the Metalist
Stadium on Wednesday 6 December for a 7.45pm (GMT) kick off.
The stadium is located south-east of Kharkiv’s city centre,
almost three kilometres from the edge of the centre. Opened
in 1929, it was renovated in 2009 and its capacity stands at
40,003. It hosted three group matches during the Euro 2012
tournament. Kharkiv is the second-largest city in Ukraine.

UEFA Champions League Second
Round Draw
Planning a Football Trip in July 2019. This post has details
of the UEFA Champions League Second round draw to help you
plan your Football Trip.

Whilst some of the venues and fixtures will not be known until
the first round is completed on the 17th July it is still
possible to plan a football trip to the second round due to
the seeding system.

The 20 teams (four directly qualified and 16 pairs of teams
from the first qualifying round that were indicated as winners
of matches 1–16) were divided into two groups of ten teams.

Within the two groups, the 20 teams (four directly qualified
and 16 pairs of teams from the first qualifying round
indicated as winners of matches 1–16) were split equally into
ten seeded teams and ten unseeded teams.

The balls containing the seeded teams were placed in one bowl
and the balls containing the unseeded were put into another
bowl. One ball was taken from each bowl and placed in a large
empty bowl in the middle, where they were shuffled. The first
team drawn will play its first match at home against the
second team drawn.
