GMCLA Today One of the largest LGBT advocacy and performing arts organizations in the world GMCLA is one of the largest choral organizations in the country, boasting a diverse and inter-generational membership of over 290 active singers. It is the first LGBTQ+ chorus that offers curriculum-based education and youth programs to middle and high school youth in the public school system, and the only chorus going into juvenile detention facilities. The Alive Music Project is GMCLA’s music education program that brings an anti-bullying message proven to increase attitude of acceptance to Los Angeles-area middle and high schools. In 2017, the Alive Music Project expanded to include 12-week music education programs for incarcerated youth, providing joy and inspiration to teenagers who are working to overcome their pasts and build better futures. In 2018, the Alive Music Project expanded once again and began providing12-week music education programs to Los Angeles schools where other music education programs had been cut. The chorus remains committed to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ youth, reaching some of the most underserved teens in Los Angeles County and thousands more in remote locations across the US.
