Letter from the Publisher Dear Reader, This month, we’re shaking the cold and heading back outside in our Outdoor Lifestyle Issue. It doesn’t get more outdoorsy in the cannabis scene than it does in the hills of Mendocino County. Emerald’s cover story this month takes you to the farm of Carly Minford. This bad-ass woman in weed made her way to the Emerald Triangle nearly 14 years ago. Today, Minford is the mind behind Wild Iris Farm, which is 100 percent off-the-grid and solar-powered. Transforming her raw land into a permitted cultivation site took not only strength but also precise planning and calculations. “When I bought the property in 2010, it [had] no hook- up to the county sewer, [no] water or power grid, so I developed the property as a self-contained unit,” she told Emerald. Her love for the land and practice with the plant has put Minford on the map. Cannabis priestess Sari Starr steps outside the traditional circle and leads by helping others discover true purpose through guided use of cannabis. Her retreats are well-known in the industry, as are her unique practices for achiev- ing a higher consciousness. Those who want to reach for the moon can find themselves landing on a Starr at her next outdoor adventure this June 16th through June 23rd at the Coral Cove Resort and Spa in Jamaica.
