Shape your future. START HERE. A Message from the Matawan-Aberdeen Educational Foundation Greetings and salutations from the Matawan-Aberdeen Educational Foundation! We are happy to report that all of this year’s grant recipients have received their materials and most have already started to work with their students. As always, we would like to thank everyone who supports the Educational Foundation. We could not award these grants to our teachers without the support from our wonderful MARSD community. To share our excitement, here is a peek into the classrooms where the children are learning through this year's grant projects. Cambridge Park - Preschool Beetbox / Sarah Bakley During a Science Eyes small group lesson, the students discussed similarities and differences between the vegetables (turnip, beet, celery). They used their senses to explore and learn
about each vegetable. The students also listened to a story, “Let’s See with Betsy: A Story about Celery.” During another Science Eyes lesson, the students learned about the importance of water and plant survival. They discussed predictions and observations while participating in an experiment involving food coloring, water and celery. They loved being scientists! Having fun! Making things! Trying new things! Ravine Drive - Learning Through Movement / Ms. Kristen Fisco The students at Ravine Drive are excited to announce the opening of their new sensory path. The sensory path was graciously provided through a grant from the Matawan Aberdeen Education Foundation. They were all smiles as they hopped their way down the alphabet trail and side stepped their way down the crayon path. The new sensory path allows for students to get out their extra energy or jump around when they need to boost their energy supply. This in turn, provides more focused learning upon return to the classroom. The teachers are also excited to be able to have a new tool to use as a reward or a fun movement break! Ravine Drive sends a big thank you to the MAEF for allowing us this opportunity! Learning! Exploring! Having fun! Strathmore - Coding in Kindergarten / Colleen Burden

(8th Grade) St. Patrick's Day started as a religious celebration in the 17th century to commemorate the life of Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. After Patrick was released for a second time from captivity, Patrick claimed he had a vision that told him to bring Christianity to the Irish people, who were predominantly pagan and druid at the time, so Patrick he made his way back to Ireland. Now each year, thousands of Irish Americans gather with their loved ones on St. Patrick's Day to share a “traditional” meal of corned beef and cabbage. Other traditional St. Patrick's Day celebration food includes corned beef, corned cabbage, coffee, soda bread, potatoes, and shepherd's pie. Fun things to do in the Spring! By, Emma B. The new lm has a greater focus on reality, rather than the fantasy nature of the animated lm. Another difference spotted by fans in the trailer was that the wise-cracking dragon Mushu, who helps Mulan on her journey to become one of China's greatest warriors, does not appear in the trailer. Another difference that has got Mulan fans talking is the decision to get rid of Mulan's original love, Captain Li Shang. Instead, he will be replaced by a rival to Mulan, Chen Honghui, played by Yoson An, who takes a romantic interest in Mulan as her true identity is revealed. Check it out on the big screen later this month! Disney's Mulan | Official Trailer Do you have a story for the newsletter? Join our newspaper club!
