PROCESS AND FORMS ABOUT TAEP The Arts Empowerment Project (TAEP) believes in the transformative power of art to heal and inspire children. We match at-risk and court-involved youth to existing arts and enrichment programs and fund their tuition and travel expenses. ELIGIBILITY AND STEPS To be eligible for classes in this semester’s program, the referred youth must have the following forms online filled out by a guardian ad litem, social worker, case worker, or a fostering parent. MUSIC LESSONS AGES 6 - 18 Community School of the Arts welcomes you to its private music lesson program. Students may begin lessons at any time during our summer, fall or spring semesters. WHERE: Studios throughout Charlotte, from Davidson to Ballantyne. Locations vary by faculty, instrument and schedule. Join us for Monster Mash-Up!, a fun afternoon of creepy crawly crafts to make your Halloween festivities super spooky. Try painting a plastic pumpkin for the coolest trick or treating gear on the block. Decorate mini-skulls in the style of Dia de los Muertos. Create garlands of glittering cobwebs and bizarre decorations to make your party a real fright night. Fun for the whole family, with all materials and treats provided. Holiday Make & Take The Holidays are a wonderful time to celebrate old traditions and make new memories. What better way to remember this year’s festivities than to spend a December afternoon making unique arts and crafts with the whole family! CSA’s Holiday Make and Take Family Workshop is a place to laugh, play, and get creative with both traditional and experimental art projects. Make Christmas tree ornaments out of recycled plastic that will astound and amaze. Design a snowflake mobile that would look right at home in a magical ice castle. Decorate a cardboard Gingerbread Man to look like Dear Old Dad, or make Mom a special corsage of paper poinsettias she can wear on Christmas morning. Looking for a unique gift for the grandparents? This is your chance to make something memorable without all the worry and mess of turning your kitchen into an art studio. All materials and holiday treats will be provided. SEPARATE APPLICATION This program requires a second application. There are limited spots available. Fill out these forms as soon as someone from the TAEP staff approves the first four forms. Link for Behailu seperate application: https://www.behailuacademy.org/apply/ GOALS Empower youth to live up to their potential Provide high quality arts experiences for teens Engage teens in projects that foster creativity, critical thinking, and social responsibility Increase students’ access and exposure to enrichment, education, and employment opportunities Prepare youth to be active, responsible, and self-sufficient citizens after high school graduation Meals, Minds, and Movement This is a year long series of conversations designed to build community though increasing understanding. The project is open to all teens (14 years and older) and adults. We will come together monthly to share a meal and our perspectives about a “tough to talk about” issue in an effort to learn and grow from each other. The project will culminate in a community created mural on a large stretch of fence on Matheson Avenue donated generously by a neighbor. Please join us for one or all! LIST OF OFFERED CLASSES JAZZ FUZION Jazz Fuzion Classes focus on the cutting edge style of jazz technique, jazz funk and street jazz. ALL - STYLES All other genres of dance not on regular schedule such as popping & locking, crump, lyrical, tap, african, free style, etc. in a monthly rotation so you can experience all styles of dance and become well rounded. TECHNIQUE This class focuses on technique, flexibility, coordination, and strength followed by progressions across the floor, center work, and combinations. This is where your dancer will learn the foundations of dance positions or expand their dance skill with technical moves. ENTERTAINMENT ARTS Acting, voice, improv and musical theater. STEPPIN’ A form of percussive dance in which the entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds that we combine into routines. These classes are led by national champ step competitors. CONTEMPORARY This class introduces contemporary style dancing to the dancer by introducing various traditional disciplines of dance foundations with current contemporary styles. RIP THE RUNWAY Modeling, Hair & Make up, Posing & Print, Wardrobe & Walking BALETT & HIPLET An artistic dance form performed to music using precise and highly formalized set steps and gestures. This genre of dance is characterized by light, graceful, fluid movements and the use of pointe shoes. TUMBLE Tumbling, jumping, and motion training, with classes that focus on specific skills, such as back handsprings to back tucks, as well as general skills and instruction in technique.
