PINE RIVERS DEMONSTRATES ITS CATERING SKILLS On Queensland Day in June, Pine Rivers Club hosted 42 members of the Women’s Y Club to morning tea and croquet. This was the first time the Club had attempted to host both such a number and to provide a varied morning tea — and club members stepped up, with many donating tasty food while 15 attending as volunteers. Even Moreton Bay Regional Council came to the party, literally, as Councillor Cath Tonks attended — she also organized for the Club to use the spare allotment next door for parking, it being a Monday with all surrounding businesses claiming so we have high hopes of gaining road parking as usual; we thank some members from the them for their assistance. exercise. Sidney made it a clean sweep by winning the raffle as well. Our three referees Colin Jolly, Annette Gatland and Dot Davidson were also presented with a small thank you for their efforts on the day. Thank you to all our volunteers manning timer clocks, paperwork etc at courtside. We couldn’t do it with- out you. Thanks too to Charlie Ernst and Mike Wallis for court setting etc and Alan Edwards, our Tournament Manager. A special thank you goes to John Turner, who, as well as playing, handled Runners-up Mary McMahon and all the computer work keeping John Turner with Reece Edwards scores up to date. MA LL E T S P O R T S E X P R E S S GCTR GOLF SINGLES DIV 1 CHAMPIONS TOURNAMENT This event was held at Southport on Sunday 16 May 2021. The final was between South- port’s Charlie Ernst and Bob Linaker of Tweed Heads. Charlie was on fire during that match and is now our Champion Golfer of the GCTR. He has also triggered to a 3! A thankyou must go to both Colin Jolly for making himself available for being tournament referee and to John Turner for manning the computer.. Everyone commented on the wonderful refreshments so thankyou to Elli and her helpers in the kitchen. To other club members who helped make this tournament an outstanding GCTR Group success thank you also! GATEBALL PLAYERS GO TRAVELLING Two teams from Southport trav- elled to Rockhampton to play in their annual Gateball Teams and Doubles Championships. With 9 teams competing, it was very good for the Central QLD region to have so many people participate. They had mixed success - Maggie was runner-up in the Singles and played very well. Kathy and Maggie almost made the playoff of the Doubles but lost at the sheep station while Jan and Sandy were amazing and almost made the final.
