CREATIVE WRITING CLASS WRITES ON SOCIAL JUSTICE 7th and 8th grade Creative Writing Scholars are writing amazing essays. The prompt we recently used was, "Keeping the Breona Taylor case in mind, what is racial injustice and how would you solve racial injustice in the United States?" The scholars' work was great! For example, Chyna Ingram wrote, "One way that racial injustice can be fixed is fixing the way police officers are taught during training and making their police training longer. I think this can help because police officers should be learning about how to not racially profile even though they should already know not to. Police academy is about 5-6 months which isn’t enough time in my opinion. Extending the academy time will allow officers to learn more about prejudice and things like that. This would make it less likely for officers to racially profile POCs… Also, by fixing the way immigrants are treated in the US. Immigrants are often looked at as threats and mistreated. Even though some immigrants come to the US for a change of scenery and to escape bad conditions. And for more job opportunities. Since a lot of immigrants are POC, this can help stop racial injustice." We’ll be sure to share more student work over time!
