Latest information and guidance for all GMMH staff

Dear colleague,
It is #ThankYouThursday and we have a lot of optimistic and uplifting things to
share with you today. This has been a very difficult week, so we hope to bring you
some positivity.
As you may know, tonight is the BBC’s Big Night In, where Comic Relief, Children in
Need and BBC One are coming together for a night of entertainment and celebration
of key workers who are making a different and helping support those affected during
these times. Bolton comedian, Peter Kay asked NHS workers and other frontline
staff to contribute clips of his iconic ‘Amarillo’ video from 2005. Mark Barrington,
Assistant Catering Manager and Restaurant Supervisor, Cath McMinn led a GMMH
team from Catering, Facilities, Switchboard, Finance , Domestic and Corporate
Services to recreate the Peter Kay video. You can view the clip here along with
details of how to donate to the charities it is supporting if you so wish to. Thank you
Mark and Cath for all your hard work in arranging this.
Whilst we do not know if any of the GMMH film will make the final cut this evening,
we have been contacted by a BBC researcher who said it was one of the best they
had seen; that it was so cheerful and uplifting. The BBC also want to thank
everyone for what we are doing at this time and that they are very proud of us.
Our Recovery Academy Tutor and previous service user, Mike Wilson has penned a
poem which we are sharing with you today.
We also have news about our great volunteers, our round up of just some of our
GMMH superstars and link to offers available to NHS workers.
We hope you enjoy today’s daily briefing.

Best wishes,

Andrew Maloney
Director of HR/Deputy Chief Executive

Today’s Key Messages:
Reasons to Remain Positive – we have found some of the best facts around to
help offer balance during these difficult times and raise a smile…

        Statista.com)
 Captain Tom Moore has raised over £28million for the NHS after completing
100 laps of his garden (source: Just Giving)
 The first human trial of a vaccine is underway – the fastest time a vaccine has
ever reached a phase 1 trial stage (source: Daily Telegraph)
 The lockdown is making us more neighbourly: a survey has found that almost
three quarters of people know if their neighbours are at high risk, and over a
quarter have checked in on their neighbours in the last week (source: Co-op
        Insurance)
 Ikea has published an at-home alternative to its meatball recipe so people in
lockdown can recreate its signature dish (source: IKEA UK)
 Support workers in Neath, Wales, have created a replica McDonald’s drive-
through to help those with autism maintain a sense of normality and structure.
They handmade their uniforms and managed to get packaging from a local
        McDonald’s (source: Daily Telegraph)
Volunteers Continue to Support GMMH:
 Over the past 7 days we have seen the first of each of
our new Trust Volunteer Responder roles mobilised
 Many people are helping with:
o Patient flow to ensure safe social distancing at
              Clozaril Clinics
          o Supporting vulnerable service users
o Transporting equipment (right: Avril Clarke, Transport
Volunteer, who transported computer equipment for one of
our Service Managers from Prestwich to Chorlton House,
              Manchester)
 Any of our operational or corporate services can request support from a
GMMH volunteer by e-mailing centralresourcingteam@gmmh.nhs.uk or
volunteering@gmmh.nhs.uk or telephone The Volunteer Team on 0161 358
       1771
 All GMMH volunteers have been DBS checked and received mandatory
       training as a minimum
 Where the team cannot source a GMMH volunteer, we can access local
authority volunteers, and national NHS volunteers where appropriate

Poem
 Mike Wilson, who now works with our Recovery Academy has written a poem
he would like to share with you. A few verses are below – we attach the full
       version:
                              Strange Times We are in
Our world has changed these last few weeks,
In a lockdown crisis answers to seek.
Living differently while we are apart
Challenges our intellect and connects with our heart

On a positive note let’s continue to remember the key workers and NHS
Sacrificing their lives so we are able to progress
The reality of human kindness we are seeing on our screens
From very young children to those in later life it seems

How do I remain so positive I hear you say?
I take every moment as a special gift anyway
Having gone through major storms in my life to prepare
Emerging from every one much better than before I declare

Just to end these thoughts and just to say
Thanking every one of you for making my day
Though I cannot see you, I remember you at length
All the work I do for others comes from you, my inner strength

Tracey Booth, Team Manager: Please shout out to all the team at Prescott House
CMHT Salford, including those who have volunteered for inpatients. We are
absolutely all in this together. We, like most people, are scared and anxious but
supportive, positive and caring. A big thank you to all my team and to my manager.
Susan Murphy, Mental Health Nurse: We are currently working at HMP Hindley
Mental Health under very confusing times for offenders. As a dedicated team we
have been providing a consistent level of care following introducing direct contact
calls to their cells with prisoners through telephone conversations. This appears to
have been what an offender described as a "life saver". We have provided in-cell
distraction packs- linked with Primary Care with regards to any health care concerns.
I continue to be amazed at the level of commitment and dedication shown within the
team.
Karen Nicoll, Team Manager: I wish to nominate some members of the UNITY
West Cumbria team for recognition. Firstly Deb Banks and Donna Devoy, NMPs
within the team who have provided cover for each other over the last four
weeks. Although they both have had periods of illness during this time , they have
made sure that the team has had prescribing cover to enable us to ensure that we
can respond to the needs of the clients and other staff members’ anxiety, regarding
clients dropping out of treatment as they have also been there. They have done this
without being prompted by management, with a huge smile and not a hint of
moaning. Thank you so much you truly are amazing people – the rest of the team
thank you. Secondly to the staff who have acted as delivery drivers Georgia
Butterworth and Tim (our volunteer). You have willing put yourselves out there to
make sure the prescriptions have arrived at the community pharmacies, again
making sure the treatment we provide to the clients has continued, thank you so
much.
