Grant Funded Program 2022-2023 • Participation is first-come, first-served, based on availability of funds STEP 1: Determine Participant Eligibility • Must provide at least 12-months of historical potable water usage (not reclaimed water) STEP 2: Schedule and complete a free water efficiency assessment conducted by city staff • Receive a follow-up report email from city staff STEP 3: Perform and document irrigation installation work by October 2, 2023 • Obtain itemized receipts, with photo and location details of installation work STEP 4: Complete the online or fillable pdf application form • Schedule a free post inspection performed by city staff • Receive final approval and total incentive amount from city staff • Receive and display grant participant signage on-site for up to 6 months STEP 5: Ongoing Program Participation • Participate in the city’s free Landscape Water Budget program to receive monthly updates • Agree to public recognition and water monitoring to evaluate potential water savings 2
Landscape Irrigation Technology Incentives – up to $7,500 per applicant or property • WaterSense Smart Irrigation Controllers, up to 100% – Irrigation Controller Installation, $200 per controller • Smart Controller Flow Sensors, up to 100% • Mainline Master Valves, up to 100% • Pressure Regulating Sprinkler and Drip Irrigation Equipment, minimum of 20 – WaterSense Sprinkler Spray Bodies, up to $5 each – High Efficiency Nozzles, up to $3 each – Pop-up Sprinkler Head Check Valves, up to $2 each – Rotor Sprinklers with Check Valves, up to $10 each – Drip Irrigation Multiport Emitters, up to $3 each • Climate/Weather sensor plug-ins for Conventional Irrigation Controllers, up to 100% 3
Smart Irrigation Controllers, up to 100% • Weather-based irrigation controllers that use local weather data to automatically adjust irrigation programs – Can provide approximately 15% water savings when properly programmed • Require a Wi-Fi or cellular connection • Must be a WaterSense labeled controller https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2017-02/documents/watersense-at-work_final_508c3.pdf 4
Smart Controller Installation – up to $200 • Up to $200 per controller to incentivize hiring a qualified professional • Must be a licensed landscape or irrigation professional • Professional Listings or Training Organizations: WaterSense Find A Pro https://www.rainbird.com/professionals/programming-irrigation-controllers Irrigation Association-certified professionals Qualified Water Efficient Landscape trained professionals Arizona Landscape Contractors Association certified professionals Arizona Smartscape trained professionals 5
Smart Controller Flow Sensors and Mainline Master Valves, up to 100% • Flow Sensors detect the rate and flow of water when installed on an irrigation mainline – paired with a compatible smart controller, to send leak alert notifications • Master Valves receive a signal from the controller to open and allow water to flow through the irrigation mainline – paired with a compatible smart irrigation controller and flow sensor, to shut off the water to the irrigation system when zone valves malfunction or become stuck-on 6
Pressure Regulated Sprinkler Spray Bodies – up to $5 each • Sprinklers heads with built-in regulators that maintain constant pressure for optimal nozzle performance – Can provide approximately 30% water savings compared to standard pop-up sprinklers • Prevent water waste and/or uneven watering • Must be WaterSense labeled • Minimum of 20 Examples: Hunter Pro-Spray PRS Series, Rain Bird 1800 Series PRS SAM heads, Toro 570Z-4 PRS Series 7
High Efficiency Sprinkler Nozzles – up to $3 each • Designed to deliver water in specific patterns or distance under a specific water pressure • A convenient sprinkler retrofit to improve irrigation efficiency • Nozzles can be inserted into existing sprinkler spray bodies to uniformly deliver water • Minimum of 20 Examples: Hunter MP Rotators, Rain Bird Rotary Nozzles, Toro Precision Nozzles, and K-Rain Rotary Nozzles 8
Pop-up Sprinkler Head Check Valves, up to $2 each • Add-on to an existing sprinkler head, that allows water to only flow in one directions • Prevents low head drainage or sprinkler seepage that can occur at the lowest sprinkler(s) in a single zone • Minimum of 20 9
Pressure Regulated Rotor Sprinklers with built-in check valves, up to $10 each • Rotor sprinklers with pressure regulation and built- in check valves • Provide efficient watering across large landscapes • Prevents low head drainage and sprinkler seepage • Minimum of 20 Examples: Hunter PGP Ultra or I-20, Rainbird 5004+ SAM PRS 10
Drip Irrigation Multiport Emitters – up to $3 each • Designed to effectively irrigate groups of plants from one source • Must be pressure-compensating models with non-adjustable output • Recommend protection with valve pits in the ground • Minimum of 20 Examples: Hunter, Rain Bird, and DIG 11
Weather Plug-Ins for Conventional Controllers, up to 100% • Plug-in that is added to an existing conventional irrigation controller that provides local weather data used to automatically adjust irrigation programs • Search for WaterSense labeled certified plug-ins by selecting “Plug-Ins” under Product Type Note: Some plug-ins will require additional components, or access to a Wi-Fi connection 12
For More Information TIPS TO REMEMBER: • A free city water efficiency assessment must be completed first, before irrigation work can begin. Grant funds are not retroactive and will not cover prior irrigation upgrades. • All participants must complete a grant application with supporting documentation for review by city staff. • Approval of incentives will occur when applicants have satisfied program requirements and receive written approval from city staff.
