FOURTEENTH Gaze upon Him, SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 3, 2022 consider Him, contemplate Him, Society of St. Vincent de Paul as you desire to imitate Him. All Fridays 6:00-7:00pm, 7:00-8:00pm Dynamic Catholic We need to leave our comfort zone for Christ In the 2nd reading St. Paul said, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” In order to be Missionary Disciples, we don’t need to be scholars of the faith like St. Thomas Aquinas or St. Augustine! We just need to boast in the cross of Christ by sharing our own relationship with Jesus. Why do we need to do this? Jesus answered that question in the Gospel when He said, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.” When we are truly alive in Christ, we radiate the mira- cle of what He did for each one of us. We are on ire and can’t wait to share the good news. This takes practice and it can be scary at irst, but Jesus told His disciples if people don’t lis- ten to your message when you speak in My name then wipe the dust off your feet and move on. We shouldn’t take it personally, be- cause as Missionary Disciples we don’t speak for ourselves, we are sharing the message Christ not only provided to us but the one He died to give. It would be good to take an op- portunity this week to meditate on the what, when, where, and how of our story as a friend of Christ. Once we do that, it will be much eas- ier to share that story with others.

FOURTEENTH St. SUNDAY Catherine Laboure IN ORDINARY Book Club TIME JULY 3, 2022 Wednesday, July 13th 7:00pm—Church Gathering Space A thrilling novel of love, loyalty, and espionage, based on the incredible true story of Eliza- beth Bentley, a Cold War double agent spying for the Russians and the United States, from USA Today bestselling author Stephanie Marie Thornton. 1963: Reeling from the death of her mother and President Kennedy’s assassination, Catherine Gray shows up on Elizabeth Bentley’s doorstep demanding answers to the shocking mystery she just uncovered about her family. What she doesn’t expect is for Bentley to ensnare her in her own story of becoming a controversial World War II spy and Cold War informer… Recruited by the American Communist Party to spy on fascists at the outbreak of World War II, a young Bentley—code name Clever Girl— inds she has an unexpected gift for espionage. But after falling desper- ately in love with her handler, Elizabeth makes another surprise discovery when she learns he is actually a Russian spy. Together, they will build the largest Soviet spy network in America and Elizabeth will become its uncrowned Red Spy Queen. However, once the war ends and the U.S. and U.S.S.R. become embroiled in the Cold War, it is Elizabeth who will dangerously clash with the NKVD, the brutal Soviet espionage agency. As Catherine listens to Elizabeth's harrowing tale, she discovers that the women's lives are linked in shocking ways. Faced with the idea that her entire existence is based on a lie, Catherine realizes that only Elizabeth Bentley can tell her what the truth really is. FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 3, 2022 National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows – Guild Center Themes in the Gospel of St. Luke Presenter: Mark Etling, Ph.D. Saturdays, July 9, 16, 23, 10 a.m. – 12 Noon Each of the four Gospels focuses on different aspects of Jesus’ ministry and teaching. The Gospel of Luke is known as the Gospel of the Poor, the Gospel of Women and the Gospel of the Holy Spirit. Why did Luke choose to highlight the importance of poor people and women, when both were considered inferior and on the margins of society? Why is so much more importance attached to the Holy Spirit in Luke and the Acts of the Apostles than the other Gospels? Join us as we discuss these important themes in the Gospel of Luke. Cost: $30 for series; $10 per session For more information, call 618-394-6281.
