The Trolleys by Sara West Directed by Charlotte Cooke Presented as part of SummerFest 2019 “No one wants to be a Duster…” The Trolleys are a gang of six living on the outskirts of the city. They need their light jars to survive the dangerous place they live in but their lights are fading fast and no one knows why. It’s up to Savage Kim and her fiery, soulful, smart, skittish (and sometimes silly) gang to embark on a dangerous journey to figure it out. All they know is that they don’t have much time and if they fail they too will disappear. They will be Dusters. This captivating new play by Sara West won the 2014 ATYP Foundation Commission Award. It’s got a big heart and asks big questions. What happens if you inherit a world where you aren’t safe? What do we need to survive in the dark? Who will save us if we can’t save ourselves? January 17th - 20th 2019
NEW WORK Short Cuts Festival Director - Tayah Blackman Our annual festival of short plays, neatly sandwiched between music, comedy and more. An unmissable collection of new, important stories, written, directed and performed by emerging artists from the Central Coast and wider. April School Holidays 2019
NEW WORK Bubble by Declan Green Commissioned by Jopuka Productions “There were more this time, weren’t there?” To survive an apocalypse, you need strength, speed, and survival skills. So what happens to those who don’t have any of these? Before the drifters took over, Sam was the acclaimed author of A Balloon Called Bubble – a popular series of children’s books, teaching kids to embrace adventure and fight fear. Now, confined to a wheelchair and stranded in a motel basement, Sam depends entirely on his siblings, Casey and Violet. But with Casey growing more distant, Sam is losing his grip on the few things he has left in his life. Forced to face his past mistakes to figure out where it all went wrong, Sam struggles to find his place in a world that needs action heroes, not writers. Written by local playwright Declan Green, Bubble is a survival drama that explores the strengths and limits of family ties in a world where art has lost its value. April 2019

NEW WORK Transendence by Jamie Hornsby Commissioned by Jopuka Productions “They say when bad things happen you have to face them. I don’t believe in that. All I believe in is... the game.” Something terrible has happened at Evie’s school. Rather than deal with it head on, the students retreat into their fantasy worlds, clinging to their elaborate game when the real world proves too much. There’s a medieval adventure, where brave knights must push back The Whisperer’s dark forces once and for all. Or there’s an underwater epic, where rising sea levels have turned Australia into a modern Atlantis. Or a fairy fantasia, with dark elves infiltrating the annual winter feast. The game takes many forms, and it demands to be played. But one by one these separate worlds collide, and no-one can really remember what game they’re playing anymore. Written by award winning playwright, Jamie Hornsby, Transcendence is a sprawling fantasy epic about escapism and the things won and lost at the end of childhood. From October 10th 2019
The Peach Season by Debra Oswald Directed by Joshua Maxwell “You can’t put the blame to anyone for what happened. Good people. Trying to avoid the necessary losses.” After the murder of her husband, Celia has shut herself and her 16-year-old daughter Zoë away, toiling on a peach farm in the middle of nowhere. The arrival of two young people to help during picking season heralds the beginning of the end for Celia’s safe existence. The Peach Season is a powerful, salutary tale showing what it’s like to be a young person desperate for independence, but also, crucially, what it’s like to be a parent during the painful process of letting children fly the nest. November 2019

because there was fire by Jamie Hornsby Directed by Danielle Brame Whiting With Gabrielle Brooks and Beau Wilson Presented at The Adelaide Fringe Festival 2019 and returning to The Newcastle Fringe Festival 2019 Snake my way around the fence-line, getting nearer. Look at Dad. Still cavemanning. Look at Jane. Still sulking. Look at him. He turns to me and says: “You ready?” And I say... “Yeah.” On a warm summer night two teens disappear from a neighbourhood barbecue, vanishing without a trace. There’s Clara, seventeen, fed up with her suburb and everyone in it. Everyone except Andrew, the newly arrived rich kid from the right side of the tracks. Sparks fly and they jump in his Monaro and hit the road, yearning for a life of adventure. But they soon learn that escape isn’t that easy, and fires can burn beyond control. Our inaugural commission from award-winning playwright, Jamie Hornsby, because there was fire is a gripping theatrical experience from start to finish. Our award winning production makes a pit-stop at the Adelaide Fringe as it continues its national tour. Keep an eye out for further tour dates - you never know where a fire might flare up unexpectedly. March 2019
