Latimerartclub.com From our President March 2020 may live on in our memories as one of the craziest months of our lives. Most public venues are closed! The stores that are open are sold out of bread and milk and eggs and … toilet paper! Of course, we’ve had to cancel the April meeting, first because Moana Nursery closed their doors to us and then because the Gover- nor and the Mayor told us to avoid meeting in groups, to practice social distancing. Social distancing – the word of the day – stay home, avoid people, make every effort to avoid exposure to the coro- na virus and stay well. Our scheduled speaker for the April meeting, Mike Callahan, has agreed to speak at the August meeting which is fortunate for us. The Latimer Board had a virtual meeting on March 24th. We all gath- ered at our home computers and used our cell phones to watch Tracey Shepard-Gillum, our web designer, go through our new lati- merartclub.com website page by page. It is beautiful with Latimer Harbinger of Spring By Vicki Curwen paintings gracing pages and our own artists work on their individual pages. You too can have your work displayed on the website and you’ll learn how in the future – either at a meeting or by email. We need to thank Charlene Hadwin, a new- er member, who worked so hard with Tracy to produce this beautiful website. Please go and look at it. Click the buttons and follow the prompts. Enjoy it. Give us your feedback. What do you think works well, what could be improved? I hope you are taking advantage of this time on your own. I’ve cleaned cupboards and filled boxes to donate to the Sal- vation Army and to the library. I’ve been working on a quilt. I’ve even painted a bit but certainly miss my regular painting afternoons shared with friends. But life will return to normal. It always does. We need to take one day at a time and enjoy the beauty of Nevada out our windows, go for walks if we’re able and watch spring unfold day by day, and plan to celebrate together when this pandemic is over and just a memory. Remember, the name badge challenge for the June meeting! I’ll have a prize or two so create your new badge and wear it proudly. Till then, stay well. Yours Creatively, Vicki Curwen

4 Carol A. Evans Before the phrases “sheltered-in”, “lock-down” and “curbside pick-up” curtailed my lifestyle I relished a productive new year. In early March I completed Tricia Poulos Leonard’s 8-sessions TMCC acrylics course where students painted abstracts, miniatures and 3-D collages. Tricia hosted a tour for our class at Nevada Museum of Art where she is a docent. I also enjoyed Char Hadwin’s “Dirty Pour” Saturday class that she taught to a packed house. If you’re not on the TMCC EPIC mailing list you’re missing some challenging art experiences. As the world spins in many directions, the hours spent creating art and learning from other artists is one way to stay on course. The late author and Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison shared her views on the arts in many writings. I hope this one serves as inspiration for your painting time today: “This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self- pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. This is how civi- lizations heal.” Website Update Please check out the new Latimer Art Club website at https://latimerartclub.com/.
