We play bowls almost every day and enjoy the warm pool thereafter. Can’t believe that we have stayed in Gauteng in the cold previous years before we retired. In this edition I bring the next chapter of “A dream called Meraai” from Phillip Lennon and hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. I can’t wait for every Monday morning to watch his next edition on youtube. A very contentious issue regarding the towing of a vehicle is also included. Many people has debated this issue on Facebook, so we decided to include the facts in this issue. A lot of people are confused about the law regarding towing of a vehicle as opposed to towing a trailer. This is the Act for Towing a Vehicle. It is almost the end of our financial year-end and time for our annual subscriptions. Please be on the lookout for your invoice via e-mail. Please ensure that you pay these amounts in the NATIONAL BANK ACCOUNT and not the account of your region. Motorhomer regards Maryna 083 470 1 444 marynakruger111@gmail.com MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 6
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT Winter greetings to all our Motorhome Family. I am pleased to see a lot of activity from our members at rallies and members arranging tours and travelling around our beautiful country. When chatting to members, a lot of members would like to tour to various parts of our country and into neighbouring countries but would like to do it in a group. I encourage members and or Regions to arrange tours to travel and experience our country. Val and I are joining Mpumalanga on their Kruger Tour at the beginning of June and then carrying on to Tshipise to escape some of the Johannesburg winter. It is good to see that there will be folk from four different regions on the tour. I would like to congratulate Maryna Kruger our new editor on her first edition – Well Done. It is very pleasing to see that the club is continuing to grow, we are currently just under 800 members. Our Facebook page is also very popular and has grown to 5500 members – Thanks to our admin, Nowell and Ari. Please place your travels on our Facebook page as it gives others idea’s and help when planning for potential campsites or where to avoid! Due to Covid we have been unable to hold our National AGM in 2020 and are planning to hold the next National AGM at our National Convergence Rally at Gariep 27th October to 1st November 2021. There maybe one or two places open for this rally and we may get some cancellations, so if you are inter- ested to attend, please contact our National Secretary Nowell to see if there is place or to get placed on the waiting list. In 2022 we will again be having a Northern and Southern Convergence Rally. The Subs for the new financial year will remain at R275.00 (2021/2022 financial year). The club is in a good financial position as are all the regions, the funds belong to the members and should be used on the members. We are pleased to inform you that we are a total of 800 motorhome members!! Will our next target of 850 be at the AGM in Oct? I look forward to seeing all who are going to Gariep. Rus in vrede Anita. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 8
So saggeaard as wat sy was, was sy geweldig kompeterend. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 9
MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 11
OBITUARY PHILIP THERON (12 April 1951 – 5 June 2021) (Northvaal) It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to one of our long-standing members, due to Corona. Philip joined the club in 2007 and soon made himself a name in the club for someone you can trust and willing to help wherever and whenever. Despite his quiet manner he always made friends with each and every one he came in contact with. To him the club was “Family” and to the club he was a “Brother”. Never shy to try new things he introduced the things he loved into the club. Some of these are as follow: Who will forget the special “wors” he made or the flat chickens he arranged for all of us at one of the valentine parties? Who will forget his Sunday morning devotions, always well prepared and solid in content, which he gave us? Who will forget his Boskraai tours attended by a number of our members? Who will forget his love for his own fami- ly? Who will forget the Northvaal shirts he recently arranged for us? Who will forget his love for nature and the photos he took and shared with us? I am confident in saying that everyone that crossed roads with Philip will not forget the impact he had on each and every one, changing all for the better! My friend, we are sorely going to miss you at our gatherings. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nakkie, all the children and grandchildren. Rest in Peace groot seun! Jy is nou by jou Vader! OBITUARY DANIE VAN VUUREN (30 September 1952 – 7 June 2021) (Noordvaal) Danie was a special person from the first time we met at Tambootie Vreugde a few years ago. We met him with a camera in his hand photographing all that nature revealed. Danie had won a few great prizes with his nature videos and photos. We found out that he was also a Namibiër and that was the common denominator we camped together ever since. Before every camp there would be a few phone calls discussing the route, the menu for the weekend, and the parking arrangement at the cost of quite a few members. Through the years we got to know Danie and Marcelle as genuine friends and caring people with big hearts. Danie we will really miss you at every next camp or tour you will be in our midst always. Rest in peace my friend, Alan. INFORMATION CENTRE TOWING OF VEHICLES AND THE NATIONAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACT The National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act No. 93 of 1996) and the National Road Traffic Regulations pub- lished in Government Notice No. R.225 of 17 March 2000 stipulate the regulatory requirements for Towing of Vehicles. Regulation 330. No person shall operate a vehicle on a public road towing another vehicle (a) if the length of the tow rope, chain or tow bar between the two vehicles exceeds three and a half metres; (b) if the towed vehicle is connected to the towing vehicle in such a manner that both vehicles are not under control; (c) unless the steering gear of the vehicle being towed is controlled by a person holding a code of driving licence authorising him or her to drive the class of such vehicle, if the towed vehicle is fitted with steering gear contemplated in regulation 200(1): Provided that the provisions of this para- graph shall not apply in the case where (i) the steerable wheels of the towed vehicle are being carried clear of the ground; or (ii) the device connecting the towing vehicle to the towed vehicle is such that the steerable wheels of the towed vehicle are controlled by such device; (d) if the brakes of the towed vehicle do not comply with the provisions of regulation 155, unless the towing vehicle is connected to the towed vehi- cle by means of a drawbar or tow bar; (e) at a speed in excess of 30 kilometres per hour, unless the towing vehicle is connected to the towed vehicle by means of a drawbar or a tow bar; (f) if the towed vehicle is conveying persons at a speed in excess of 30 kilometres per hour, unless the towed vehicle is a semi trailer; or (g) if the towing vehicle is a motor cycle, motor tricycle, motor quadrucycle or pedal cycle. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 16
Regulation 239(2)(b) on Gross Vehicle Mass must also be complied with: Gross vehicle mass, gross axle massload, gross axle unit massload, gross combination mass, power to mass ratio and axle massload of driving axle to total mass ratio not to be exceeded Regulation 239. (1) No person shall operate on a public road a mini bus, bus, tractor or goods vehicle (a) if (i) the gross vehicle mass; (ii) any gross axle massload; or (iii) any gross axle unit massload, is exceeded; (b) drawing any other motor vehicle if the gross combination mass is exceeded. (2) No person shall operate on a public road a vehicle which is a minibus, bus, tractor or goods vehicle if the mass in kilograms of such vehicle or of a combination of vehicles of which such first mentioned vehicle forms a part, whether laden or unladen, exceeds a figure arrived at by multiplying the net power in kilowatts of the engine of such vehicle as determined in accordance with or calculated with due regard to code of practice SABS 013 A. The determination of performance (at net power) of internal combustion engines (a) in the case of the drawing vehicle being a tractor by 400; or (b) in the case of any other vehicle by 240. (3) No person shall operate on a public road a vehicle which is a mini bus, bus, tractor or goods vehicle if the mass in kilograms of such vehicle or of a combination of vehicles of which such first mentioned vehicle forms a part, whether laden or unladen, exceeds five times the total axle massload of the driving axle or axles of such vehicle. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 17
Towing more than one trailer / Towing of a caravan and trailer In terms of Regulation 222 (restriction on combination of motor vehicles) of the National Road Traffic Act, states the following: No person shall operate on a public road any combination of motor vehicles – other than a drawing vehicle and one or two trailers; other than a motor vehicle drawing one other motor vehicle which is not a trailer; and other than a motor vehicle drawing another motor vehicle which is not a trailer, and a trailer, in the case of an emergency or a breakdown. No person shall operate on a public road a combination of motor vehicles consisting of – a trailer attached to a drawing vehicle in such a manner that the combination of trailer and drawing vehicle cannot bend in a horizontal plane, if the combined length of such trailer, including any drawbar or coupling and the rear overhang of the drawing vehicle, exceeds three comma one metres; a trailer or trailers attached to a drawing vehicle if the length of the drawbar of any trailer in such combination, where such trailer has more than one axle, exceeds two metres: Provided that in the case of an underslung coupling, the drawbar may exceed two metres if the distance between the two vehicles does not ex- ceed two comma five metres. Note that a caravan in terms of the National Road Traffic Act is defined as an enclosed vehicle which is designed or adapted solely to live in and which is drawn by another vehicle. A trailer means a vehicle which is not self propelled and which is designed and adapted to be drawn by a motor vehicle. A caravan is also designed and adapted to be drawn by a motor vehicle thus it fits the description of a trailer and the law cited above does allow a drawing vehicle to pull two trailers. It is therefore legal to tow a caravan and a trailer. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 18
REGIONAL REPORTS NORTHVAAL REGION MALONJENI (12 - 14 FEBRUARY 2021) Report by Marsha Griffin Exitement began to mount as we turned off the road and through the familiar gates of Malonjeni. In the distance we could see zebra grazing and, as the motorhome swayed along the narrow dirt road towards the bush camp, I spied wildebees and buck spread out in the valley to our right. They ignored us and carried on as if we didn’t exist but that was fine by me. I couldn’t wait to set up camp and greet those who had already arrived. This camp site holds some lovely memories for us but I have realised that its not so much the campsite that makes the weekend special but the people attending and this weekend proved to be no exception. There were quite a few motorhomes already there, five of which had come the previous day. It was Vincent Mascini’s birthday and so it wasnt long before people were sitting chatting over a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of cake. When Nowell and I arrived at “meet and greet,” people were already milling around Ansie and Karel who were handing out the tokens and collecting for the cancer tin. It took Jay awhile to get us to settle down so he could introduce the new members Ben & Carlien Prinsloo, and fill us in on the program for our Valentine Hobo party. He does it so well and invariably has everyone in fits of laughter. After all the rain we’ve been having it was nice to see the sun Saturday morning. At eleven o clock that morning about twelve of us congregated in the lapa where Ansie attempted to teach us line dancing. I say “attempted” because I think we gave the spectators quite a laugh. But it was great fun and Ansie has amazing patience. In the end I think we all came away feeling quite pleased with ourselves. I cant wait for the next lesson. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 19
Later that afternoon, out came this gigantic black pot and it wasnt long before the most tantalizing aroma began to draw people from their afternoon nap. Bunnychows were on the menu for our Hobo party and Hansie and Sonja, after setting up their “plastic valley”, had begun to work their magic. Dan and Engela Booysen donated a R700.00 Pick n Pay voucher for the winning Hobo and it looked like everyone was determined to win it. We have quite a few performers in our club! One hobo had a bottle in his back pocket which dragged his pants below the “crack” and the tie holding them up didnt quite do the job. It also looked like he’d “walked into a door”. Besides blackened teeth, begging for money (which incidently paid dividends) making out on the grass and plenty of drunken staggering, a jolly good time was had by all. Hansie and Sonja walked away with the prize and I must admit whatever those two set their mind on they do it with all their heart. We are privileged to have them as part of our club. Sunday dawned with a challenging devotion by Jay where he addressed our doubts and wrong perceptions refering us to John the Baptist. At chairman’s tea, among other notices, Vincent and Jilll were congratulated on their 45th wedding anniversary, Clemens and Susan Palmer were awarded a certificate for achieving 50 rallies and Nowell was awarded the wooden spoon upside down for exposing his butt in public! People lingered after tea, as if loath to begin the task of packing up, a true testimoney to a wonderful weekend. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 20
WELTEVREDE, PARYS (12 - 14 MARCH 2021) Report by Sonja Otto We all arrived by 17h00 on Friday just in time for the usual Meet and Greet at 17h00. Pieter and Erina ticked off the attendance register and made sure everyone got the attendance token for the weekend. Jay entertained us by reading a poem from Japie Muller. We were 34 motorhomes and some of us had to double up but because these stands are all under roof and there was no need to use our awnings it worked out perfectly. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 21
We had our 1st auction in the afternoon before the communial braai, this was a fun filled hour where members could bid on items that other members either donated or wanted to get rid off and 15% of the pro- ceeds were donated to the club fund. This was a new experience and lots of fun and giggles came from this. We had our braai and after everybody enjoyed their evening meal they retired to their motorhomes for the night. On Sunday we had our traditional morning devotion and Chairman's tea with everybody contributing to the eats and treats and tea supplied by Hansie. Allan & Hanlie Sheldon reached their 75th Rally and were awarded their milestone token and certificate. Whilst some of us had to start packing to return to our various homes the others started preparing for their mini tour to Gariep. We are looking forward to the next one. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 22
BUSH INN, SPRINGS (16 - 18 APRIL 2021) Report by Sonja Otto What a surprise when we arrived at this beautiful venue, we were well received by the friendly staff of the resort. We were 34 motorhomes at this rally and although it was cold as it usually is at the beginning of the winter in Gauteng, the members enjoyed a nice big juicy hamburger on Friday night prepared by Hansie and Marius. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 23
Saturday night we had the usual communal braai once again in the lapa. It was another cold evening and folks retired earlier that the night before. But we had a few that enjoyed the bonfire and some music and even tried dancing but alas the cold eventually won and all returned to the warmth of their motorhomes. Our milestone motorhomers was John & Carrol Locke with 25 Rallies, Phillip & Nakkie Theron 150 Rallies. The lucky winner of the wooden spoon was Eliane Pakes for showing us all that you are never too old for a dance party.... As always we can't wait for the next rally at Pilansberg. And a big thank you to our team for another well organised rally. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 24
PILANESBERG NATIONAL PARK (14 - 16 MAY 2021) Report by Marian Bezuidenhout It's rally time! Time to meet and greet our fellow motorhomers and catch up on all the interim happenings. Glad to see and hear of members who are well on the road to recovery from illness. Sad to hear of the passing on of the mothers of Jill Mascini and Ari Korver. We also welcomed new members Alan and Sandy Morton, and Ronnie Parkin and his care giver. Tiaan and Janet did roll call and issued Pilanesberg rally tokens. The Friday arrivers compared stories of having to take the long route via Rustenburg due to the R556 road closure because of riots. (Luckily this was cleared up and we could all travel home on Sunday via the short route.) Hansie and Sonja served us soup and buns after the welcoming. In our camp we had lots of action from the impala rams who scuffed and barked and locked horns at the slightest provocation. The birds were a pleasure to see and we could scarcely believe how tame some of them were. Many of us went on game drives through the reserve. The veld is recovering from recent veld fires that swept through large portions of the reserve. The new green grass sprouts attracted buck, zebra and blue wildebeest giving us good views. Hansie posted a sighting of a cheetah with her cubs. Elephants, rhino, giraffes, wart hogs and jackals were some of the spotings. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 25
Saturday evening we gathered for the customary bring your food, drinks, tables and chairs and LET US BRAAI - thanks for the fires Hansie! Sonja took photos over the weekend and was also assisted by Milandri, 15 year old family of Tiaan and Janet. What a delightful teenager with a beautiful manner of asking motorhomers to pose for photos. On Sunday at 9am Ari Korver welcomed the members, we sang and Jay brought us a word from Luke 15:4-10. Hendrik Bezuidenhout closed devotions with prayer. Chairman's Tea is a fun time to end the weekend and let everyone know what is coming up. Our next rally will be at Mabalingwe from 18-20 June with a further 5 days for those wishing to make use of the opportunity. We are aiming for an auction during this weekend. This will be confirmed as soon as we have the go- ahead from Mabalingwe. The Cansa tin received donations. Thanks to all who contributed. As Elaine Pakes was the recipient of the wooden spoon at Bush Inn so she chose Sandy Morton to receive the cup-up spoon for being so welcoming. Sandy will nominate the next recipient if they are present at Mabalingwe. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 26

THE ISLAND, WILDERNESS (18 - 20 FEBRUARIE 2021) Verslag deur Uli Glatz Vir die Februarie saamtrek trek 12 busse saam by Island Lake.
MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 31
Dag 8: Ons ry rustig in koel weer tot by Yzerfontein.
MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 33
MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 34
By die Luukse staanplekke is daar privaat ablusie blokke vir elke staanplek. Gariep Dam Fotos MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 35
Melton Wold Historiese Plaas was ons volgende stop.
Terug by die kamp het Uli “Hang Man” gespeel. EK SÊ EK IS ‘N PENSIOENARIS. HY SÊ TOE EK IS DONNERS BRAAF, WANT DIT IS EEN BEROEP WAT NIEMAND NOG OOIT OORLEEF HET NIE. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 38
FREE STATE REGION SIONBERGH (NEAR HEIDELBERG) (9 - 11 October 2020) Verslag deur Ben de Lange The Free State region hosted a very successful rally at Sionbergh near Heidelberg from the 09 th October till the 11th October 2020. Sionbergh is a very beautiful place with a hot and cold swimming pool. There is a dam where fishermen could fish to their heart’s content. It is a catch and release facility with Carp and Bass in the dam. The AGM was also scheduled for the Saturday morning. A few motorhomes arrived on the 8th and the rest on the 9th. There were in total 15 Motorhomes, a few guests from other regions also attended the rally. Friday afternoon we had the usual meet and greet session with snacks and “Limonades”.
Dit was weereens ‘n baie suksesvolle samekoms gewees. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 40
MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 41
Saterdag is `n tipiese warm sonnige Vrystaatdag.
Kedu River Lodge is a small establishment on the banks of the Vaal River at Lindeque’s Drift near Parys. The resort has 10 large sites (some are big enough for two motorhomes). The ablution block consists of two toilets, three family showers with toilets and one bathroom with a bath. A scullery and dumping point for toilet cassettes are also available. All sites have power (16 amp), water from a bore hole and a built braai with a grid. https://showme.co.za/vaal/tourism/kedu-river-lodge-toscan-river-estate/ MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 43
Fishing is allowed on a catch and release basis and some members tried their hand at luring the Vaal river fish to their hooks. According to those in the know, there are lots of fish in the river. Canoes and some other sports equipment are for hire at the restaurant. Friday evening starts with a meet and greet and while not everybody has arrived yet, Willie and Hannes welcomes all our guests from various regions. Saturday the group visits a car and heritage museum at Kruger’s Restaurant & Bar as well as a collection of Volkswagen kombis and old caravans serving as accommo- dation at Lazy River Roadhouse. Both within 5km from the campsite. A local market was also supported on Sunday morning Some of the wildlife on the premises provided photo opportunities for the enthusiasts. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 44
The resort provided two half drums for the Saturday Braai and while it was interrupted with a rain shower, everybody enjoyed the company around the coals. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 45
UITHOEK (16 - 18 APRIL 2021) Report by Engela Erasmus One of the big changes with this rally was that a whole bunch of us decided that with the high fuel prices and bad roads it would be worth it to stay 4 nights instead of 2 and miss the Friday and Sunday traffic. Needless to say, this was a huge success and for many the 4 nights will probably continue. On arrival it became obvious why this venue has become a favorite. The scenery is beautiful, calming, refreshing and leaves one with a sense of anticipation for the calmness, walks, views and chats with great company that lies in store. The camp itself is set out very well and all stands are on beautifully maintained grass. Ablutions are well kept and always clean. Hot water was inter- esting as it is heated up with a “Donkey” mechanism. They do warn you that it takes 3 minutes for the hot water to come out and sure enough that’s true. Getting there, most went passed Clarens and this resulted in some fun shopping, eating and for some a long visit at the Brewery . This distraction also resulted in some’s almost late arrival but we won`t mention names. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 46
The weather was beautiful but chilly at night so instead of retreating to our motorhomes early a plan was made by our innovative members and soon two tarps were tied up to the lapa structure which became our official “Kuier Plek” and boy did we visit Spirits provided by our enthusiastic brewers was enjoyed and approved of by those eager to taste. Friday evening our meet and greet was held with each member bringing their own eats and drinks (covid social distancing) and Willie welcomed everyone. MCSA Magazine 2nd Edition 2021 47

KZA REGION ROCKY BAY (19 - 21 FEBRUARY 2021) Report by Maxine Hunn The Rocky Bay Rally certainly lived up to its venue’s name with great confusion on arrival regarding the sites allo- cated to us for the weekend. Unfortunately the writer missed all the fun with certain members having spent some time playing “musical sites” before she arrived. Nevertheless, the rocky start to the weekend was quickly forgotten after a gin/beer/wine or two and a delicious evening feast of Vetkoek & Mince prepared by the “hostess with the mostest”, our very own Moira Friess. It was definitely a winner and I noticed a number of doggy bags being carted off at the end of the evening for a late night snack or breakfast the next morning. Louis welcomed everyone and introduced Zandy & Jan, our newest members. Great that Martin & I are almost considered as old- ies now after 3 rallies. All in all, there were 9 motorhomes and we were all fortunate enough to be right on the beach and to have stunning sea views. Nothing like the sound of the sea to lull you to sleep at night.
