7 Spring Baking Recipes Brighten up your Spring by making some tasty treats. They’re sure to bring a smile to your face, whether you keep them all to yourself or give them away to friends and family! **these recipes include steps which should always be done with a parent or guardian, please ask an adult to help you with knives, hot water and heavy lifting. Chocolate Bark This chocolate bark is super simple and very adaptable, packed with goodies. Use your favourite treats and break into shards – these also make great gifts. What you’ll need: • 400g dark or milk chocolate • 100g white chocolate • Your choice of treats How to make them: Line an A4-sized baking sheet with baking paper. Break the dark or milk chocolate into a large glass bowl, placing over small saucepan of simmering water - make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Over a low heat, stir the chocolate once it begins to melt until it’s smooth and glossy. Pour the chocolate onto the baking sheet, spreading into an even layer using the back of a spoon. Melt the white chocolate following the same method and dollop blobs of the white chocolate on top of the dark/milk chocolate, using a fork to create any pattern you like. To finish, add your favourite treats – we like the colours of smarties and mini eggs! Leave to set at room temperature then break into shards to eat. These will keep for two weeks. Funky Biscuits Another simple recipe, both to bake and to decorate. You can use cookie stamps, toys, even fingers to make patterns. What you’ll need: • 200g unsalted butter, softened • 200g golden caster sugar • 1 large egg • ½ tsp vanilla extract • 400g plain flour, plus a little extra for dusting How to make them: Preheat your oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and line a baking sheet with baking paper. Put the butter in a bowl and beat until soft and creamy. Mix in the sugar, then the egg and vanilla, and finally the flour to make a dough. If the dough feels a bit sticky, add a little bit more flour. Pull off pieces of the dough and flatten slightly to about the thickness of two £1 coins on a floured surface. Press your desired pattern maker gently into the dough without going all the way through. Transfer your designs to the baking sheet and bake for 8-10 mins or until the edges are just brown. Leave to cool for 5 minutes, then tuck in! These biscuits will keep for up to 3 days.
