Auckland Normal Intermediate Auckland Normal Intermediate is a co-educational school located in the central Auckland area of Mount Eden. We cater for up to 750 pupils in Year 7 and 8 and the school is situated in the highly sought after ‘Grammar Zone’. Our school has a proven record of supporting students academically and of providing a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. The school offers numerous programs enabling children to be educated and grow into responsible and enthusiastic learners. Auckland Grammar School If language support is needed, students will be provided with specialist lessons in English so that they can work alongside their peers in the classroom. Your child’s two years at Auckland Normal Intermediate are a time for exploration of new subjects with the security of being Epsom Girls attached to one class group. The majority of our students continue on Grammar School to either Auckland Grammar or Epsom Girls and happily experience a Auckland Normal seamless transition to High School. Intermediate International Baccalaureate I.B. is a non-profit educational foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland which offers the Diploma programme (final 2 years of school), the Middle Years (11 – 16 years of age) and Primary Years Programme (3 – 13 years of age). At ANI we implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP) which is for students aged 3 – 13 and focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It provides an educational framework based upon what is currently known about how young students learn and draws on best practice in primary schools worldwide. ESL/ESOL (English support) Students will be assessed on their level of English language acquisition shortly after their enrolment commences. The results of each assessment will be discussed between the Principal, ESL/ESOL teacher and classroom teacher. They will then make a decision on whether the student will be timetabled to attend the school’s ESOL program. The student will be immersed in the mainstream classroom immediately and will be offered ESOL, classroom support and resources to assist their learning. Conversation Club and Reading Club are new initiatives created this year to enable students the opportunity of increasing their written and oral skills.
After school music and leisure classes ANI has a large after school program for students. International students are subsidised for one class in either music or leisure. Music classes are offered in Piano, Violin, Keyboard, Guitar, Saxophone and Singing. Leisure and recreational classes are offered in Arts & Crafts, Painting, Crafts & Creations, Expression, Dance and Drawing. Kiwi culture after-school classes are also offered free of charge from 2020. All students who study for one term or more receive one free after school class.
