Coral Park Primary School Achieving SUCCESS 145 Coral Drive, Hampton Park 3976 www.coralparkps.vic.edu.au NEWSLETTER Term 3 Issue 6, 19th August 2021 Email: coral.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au Phone 9702 8398 From the Principal COVID 19 We would love to be able to open the school for all our students every day as I fully understand the pressure this remote learning period is putting on families, students and our staff. Unfortunately though, we must abide by the rules outlined by the Victorian Government. I thank all of the parents and families who, although doing it tough, are doing the best they can to follow all of the lockdown rules. I remind parents that the school does not get to make the rules, we just have to follow them. When dealing with the school and staff please remember that our value of respect is now, more than ever, required. Sometimes the answer to your inquiry is no, simply because we have no other choice. Curriculum Day Each year schools are allocated a limited number of curriculum days. These are vital for our professional learning to ensure we can deliver the most comprehensive and up to date teaching and learning for all students. Once the government announced tighter restrictions, limiting the number of staff allowed onsite to those supervising the children of essential workers, we were forced to postpone our curriculum day. I apologise for the inconvenience of having to reschedule this. Instead, this Friday students will only be required to do their DB attendance forum and attend their daily class meeting. They will then have access to specialist activities for the day, if they choose to do so. On Site Supervision As per our communication emails we send to you whenever the guidelines change, the following rules apply to all schools across the state of Victoria: Permits for on-site supervision From Wednesday 18 August, parents and carers are only able to request on-site supervision for their child/ren in the below categories: A) Children where both parents and/or carers are considered authorised workers who cannot work from home, work for an authorised provider and where no other supervision arrangements can be made: Where there are two parents/carers, both must be authorised workers, working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision For single parents/carers, the authorised worker must be working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on- site provision. An authorised worker permit is required for parents requesting on-site supervision for their child/ren under Category A as an authorised worker. B) Children experiencing vulnerability, including: In out-of-home care Deemed vulnerable by a government agency, funded family or family violence service, and assessed as requiring education and care outside the family home Identified by a school or early childhood service as vulnerable, (including via referral from a government agency, or funded family or family violence service, homeless or youth justice service or mental health or other health service) Where a parent/carer indicates that a student with a disability is vulnerable because they cannot learn from home, and/or informs the school the student is vulnerable due to family stress, the school must provide on-site supervision for that student. This may apply to students enrolled in specialist schools and students with a disability enrolled in mainstream schools. An authorised worker permit is not required for accessing on-site supervision under Category B Remote and Flexible Learning Our teachers are working hard to ensure they provide work at each individual student’s levels. They are making videos to teach the content and model the task required. Even though they too are having to work from home, they are still available as your child/s teacher. If your child needs any assistance with any of their learning, please send their teacher an email to request help. You as parents do not need to teach your children, we just need your help to ensure they are out of bed, have access to a device on which they can learn and, as best as possible, free from distractions whilst they complete their learning for the day. In most cases, this learning can be completed within 1.5 hours and can be completed at any time of the day. Stay Safe Justin Thompson Principal
Due to the tightened restrictions, our Curriculum Day planned for tomorrow, Friday the 20th August will be POSTPONED. Instead, all Coral Park students will engage in a remote learning ‘Specialist Day’ this Friday. Tomorrow students will need to: Log into their normal DB Community page Complete their daily attendance forum Attend their daily class meeting (at their normal time) If your child wants to they can then access their specialist’s activities from their DB Community page If your child is eligible for onsite attendance supervision as per the current guidelines, they will now be able to be supervised this Friday 20th August. These students will also be en- gaging in the above “Specialist Day”. A reminder that all Victorian Metropolitan Government schools will continue with Remote Learning until Thursday 2nd September. All children who can learn at home must learn from home – with exceptions only in extremely limited circumstances. Also, ‘Authorised Workers’ now require permits, as was the case in 2020. If you believe your child meets one of the below criteria, you are now required to provide the school with a copy of your partner and your worker’s permits. Onsite Supervision: LIMITED • Onsite supervision is NOT available for authorised workers (parents, guardians or carers) who are working from home • Onsite supervision is ONLY available to authorised workers (parents, guardians or carers) who are working outside of the home AND who cannot organise someone to supervise their child(ren) and can therefore provide the school with current Workers Permits Onsite supervision is available for those children considered ‘vulnerable’: *Children in out of home care and whose placement is under stress *Children deemed by Child Protection to be at risk or harm *Children identified by the school as being vulnerable (usually via referral from a family violence agency or mental health or other health services) *Children with a disability who cannot learn from home due to vulnerability or family stress as approved by the principal. If you or your partner are not working, can work from home or have a responsible family member that can supervise your children at home, you must keep them at home.
