unlock a child’s potential www.childreach.org.uk h e Ta j Ma ha l Cycle to t Take a two-week long cycle through Rajasthan, one of the most culturally rich regions of India, and experience its spectacular landscape. From sprawling snow-covered mountain ranges and white sand beaches, festivals, villages and urban cities, India gives diversity a whole new meaning. You will experience a variety of sights and sounds that will carry you through to the majestic Taj Mahal. Cycling through rural villages, we will have a fascinating insight to the traditional way of life in this region.

We improve children’s access to healthcare, education and child rights and protection to help them unlock their potential. We currently have projects in India, Morocco, Nepal, Tanzania and the UK with over 600,000 beneficiaries to date. We believe that all children have the right to: Enough food, clean water and shelter A good education and a reliable health service Live without fear of abuse/violence We are able to do this through sustainable funding, obtained with the help of people like you. We believe that if you dedicate your time, energy and enthusiasm towards our cause then we should give you something life changing and memorable in return. This is where our Challenge Events fit in! How does it all work and what support Fundraising will I get? At Childreach International we know that fundraising can seem challenging, but as the largest UK provider of student Challenge Events we have the experience to help you reach your fundraising target. You will have an experienced Team Leader behind you as well as our award winning fundraising team there to offer support! Throughout the year leading up to your departure, we will make every effort to prepare you and help you reach your target. Your Team Leader will spend their time organising group socials and fundraising events to get you on your feet. In addition to this, after signing up you will need to attend the group inaugural meeting. Your Student Fundraising Manager will attend this session and take you through every aspect of the trip, from fundraising to packing your bag!
unlock a child’s potential www.childreach.org.uk Itinerar y Day 1 Fly from London Meet your group at the airport and board your flight. Day 2 Arrive in Delhi We will transfer to our hotel and have some free time in the afternoon to explore. Day 3 Project visit Today you visit a project where you can see first- hand the work that Childreach International is doing. After lunch, we will then transfer to the railway station to catch our sleeper train to Jodhpur. Day 4 Jodhpur We will arrive in the early morning and transfer to our hotel. In the afternoon we will meet our cycle guides and pick up our bikes that will carry us all the way to the Taj Mahal! In the afternoon we will take a short cycle tour of the city to limber up our legs and take in some of the sights. Day 5 Udaipur After breakfast, we will cycle 35km or so, before we reach Ranakpur where we will visit the stunning 15th Century Jain temple. We then get back on our bikes and ride through the Aravlli Hills for around 40km, before continuing to the stunning lakeside town of Udaipur.
unlock a child’s potential www.childreach.org.uk Itinerar y Day 6 Udaipur Known as ‘The Pearl of Rajasthan’, ‘The City of Sunrise’ and ‘The Venice of the East’, Udaipur is a beautiful place regarded by both Indians & travellers as the most romantic city in India. Situated on the east side of Lake Pichola, the main palace commands an unsurpassed view across the shimmering lake. Day 7 Kumbhalgarh We will leave Udaipur in the early morning, and cycle north to Kumbhalgarh. Our route will take us away from the main road, following a series of quieter (and bumpier!) back-roads. We will need to stay alert as it’s not uncommon to come across an errant cow sunning itself! Day 8 Pushkar We ride back out into the desert after breakfast, as we make our way to the holy town of Pushkar. Sitting on the edge of a lake and surrounded by desert, this little town is a holy site, and great place to relax and soak up some Indian atmosphere. If we still have some energy, we can climb to the hilltop temple for sunset.
unlock a child’s potential www.childreach.org.uk Itinerar y Day 9 Jaipur We set out for our longest day of cycling. We take desert backroads, passing through small villages, to reach the town of Rupnagar. We then continue on to reach the Naraina Railway Crossing before transferring to Jaipur. Day 10 Jaipur The Pink City of Jaipur is one of the most attractive and colourful places in India. We will spend a day recuperating and touring the city. Day 11 Sariska National Park After breakfast we will leave Jaipur behind and return to rural India. From Jamwa Ramargh we cycle to Pratap Garh, through the beautiful landscape of the Aravali foothills, and then onwards to Sariska. Day 12 Sariska National Park Today we will have the chance to explore Sariska National Park, home to a rich variety of wildlife. The park is home to deer, wild boar, antelope, jackals, hyena, and a small number of leopards. There have also been some reports that tigers are returning to the area.
unlock a child’s potential www.childreach.org.uk Itinerar y Day 13 Bharatpur We begin with a ride from the hotel to Muhwa, before continuing to our lunch spot. The park is renowned for its World Heritage listed bird sanctuary and on arrival we will cycle here. The sanctuary is home to an array of egrets, kingfishers, eagles and many more—over 360 species in total! Day 14 Agra We leave Bharatpur and cycle to Fatehpur Sikri, the emperor Akbar’s deserted royal city. In the evening, we will arrive at Agra, and finally set eyes upon the magnificent Taj Mahal. This serenely beautiful, white marble building was built by the Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife. We will watch the sun set, as we reflect in the past two weeks. Day 15 Taj Mahal We will get up very early, and make our way to the imposing Agra Fort of Akbar, where the mighty sandstone walls enclose the beautiful white marble pearl mosque, palaces, halls, courtyards and fountains. We will also visit the Taj Mahal by day. There we can spend some hours viewing the magnificent gardens and the splendid white marble mausoleum of the Taj Mahal itself. In the afternoon, we will transfer back to Delhi for a celebratory dinner.
unlock a child’s potential www.childreach.org.uk Itinerar y Days 16-21 Time to travel This is your time to explore. You can head to Goa and chill out on the beaches, or head to Dharamshala to find enlightenment. The choice is yours! You will return back to the UK on day 22. If you do not wish to travel then you are able to book your own flights at a reduced fundraising target. “Cycling across the Indian subcontinent is definitely the best way to see it— lots of laughs and breathtaking views. We pedalled past some of the worlds most famous landmarks” Tim Mortimer, participant 2011 Do I need to be an experienced cyclist? No! As with all our Challenge Events, India on 2 Wheels is accessible to everyone and has been designed specifically with the amateur cyclist in mind. Volunteers will need to have basic skills of riding and command an average level of fitness, but aside from this the only necessary requirement is a spirit of adventure and a willingness to help!
