Gin Gin Neighbourhood Facebook Page We would like to invite you to check out our new Facebook page for the Gin Gin area. This page acts as a community hub for residents living in the Gin Gin area and is operated by the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre incorporating local Gin Gin content of Bundaberg Regional Council services and programs, these including: Gin Gin Library, Council Service Centre, Community and Environment, Infrastructure, Planning and Organisational Services. My name is Lee and I am the new Care Worker Administration for Kolan Community Options. I have over 20 years Administration experience and 14 years’ experience with Aged Care in the Community. I have lived in Sharon for 15 years, married and have one son who completes year 12 this year. I enjoy Dressmaking, Interior Design and Keeping Fit. My kryptonite is Chocolate! The staff here at Gin Gin Neighbourhood and Service Centre have made me feel really welcome and are a great bunch of people to work alongside. I feel very blessed to have been chosen for this position and hope to learn and thrive as I continue along. Best regards to all and don’t take life too seriously! Tomorrow is always a new day. Message from the Team We recognised Domestic and Family Violence Awareness with a great turnout to support our Joining Hands Against Family and Domestic Violence BBQ in Gin Gin Streetscape Park on 10 May with many of the community showing their support by attending and writing messages on our static display of hands. A special thanks to Robert from the Gin Gin MenShed for making sure everyone was well fed. Free Tax Help FREE Tax Help will be available again this year at Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre. Starting dates to be advised. To book appointments phone 4130 4630. If you are a low income earner—less than $60,000 per annum and have no investments you may be eligible for FREE tax help. To receive tax help, you need to have a MyGov account, user ID and password, tax file number, and notices of assessment. Social Craft Interested in craft or a social outing to meet new friends? You’re welcome to come along and join our Knit & Natter craft group at the Neighbourhood Centre on Monday mornings from 9 am to 11.30 am. Bring your own crafts—Christina, our creative volunteer is happy to assist you with any of your crafts FREE Tai Chi Wanting to get fit or just enjoy a social morning out? Try a free Tai Chi class with our skilled volunteers every Monday from 9.30 am to 11.30 am at the Gin Gin Youth Activity Centre. Welcome Everyone, Firstly I’d like to introduce Lee, our new Care Worker Admin. Some of you would have already spoken to Lee on the phone or met her at our last social lunch. Lee comes with previous experience in aged care and admin and has already showed that she is going to be a great asset to our team. She is also in the Staff Spotlight this month. We have two social events coming up in June with our next social lunch and an outing later in the month. This is a good time to get out and about while being supported by our wonderful staff. Please contact the office to book. With the cold weather setting in it is important to check your heaters, electric blankets and smoke alarms for faults or damage. If you are unsure about any of these items ask a friend, family member or an electrician to check them for you. Until next time, Lee-Anne REMINDER—Flu Season TRANSPORT SERVICES Please do not access our local or Bundaberg transport if you are un- well with cold or flu like symptoms. It is important that we limit the risk to other clients and our staff. If you are unsure if you are well enough to utilise our transport services please contact the office to discuss. DOMESTIC / SOCIAL SUPPORT SERVICES If you or another person in your home is unwell with the flu or a cold please contact the office to cancel the service . The office will do their best to offer you an alternative service if one is available. This type of therapy has been said to reduce boredom, depression, isolation and loneliness. There has also been an increase in a person’s interaction with others, cognitive ability and communication. KOLAN COMMUNITY OPTIONS provides entry level support for younger people and frail, older people to assist and re-enable clients to live independently in a safe home environment within their own community. We also provide assistance to carers to maintain their caring role by offering respite services so that the carer can take a break.
