VISION: THE “CROWN JEWEL” OF BLOOMINGTON Every major city in the United States has its crown jewel performing arts organization. Whether it is the Goodman of Chicago, the Guthrie Theater of Minneapolis, the Old Globe in San Diego, or the Indiana Repertory Theater in Indianapolis, cities across the country have their own Broadway caliber performing arts organization. These are not “touring houses” where shows produced elsewhere, come for a time and then move on. No. These are established, community-based companies where professional work is created BY and FOR the community. These companies utilize local talent while also bringing in the best actors, designers, directors in the country to produce work. In some cases, work that is developed by these organizations has a life beyond their city and garners them national attention. In every case, these organizations are a vital public resource and a point of pride for the City. Bloomington, for all of its cultural richness, has never had a crown jewel performing arts organization. Until now… Bloomington Playwrights Project, Cardinal Stage, and Pigasus Institute have formally merged to create Constellation Stage & Screen, the full- scale, comprehensive, professional performing arts organization that our community has long deserved. This new organization will carry on the important missions of each individual organization, while dramatically leveling up its operations and programming. There are THREE PILLARS to the creative infrastructure of Constellation; Theater, Film, and Education. These areas will work collaboratively, and seamlessly, to generate programming that touches virtually every member of the community in real and profound ways. The unique synergy of theater and film allows Constellation to create a new work development pipeline, where new scripts can travel from page, to stage, to screen. While a common practice in the larger entertainment industry, no other regional performing organization in the country employs this model. The national notoriety of this program will attract and retain high quality talent. We invite you to join us on this exciting new journey, ensuring our programming remains accessible and affordable for every member of our community as we build a lifelong passion for the performing arts for generations to come. 2
