Narnia Early Learning To create a place where the fun is endless, the laughter is infectious, the interactions are rich, the love is genuine, the world is big, creativity flourishes and Jesus is real. The name “Narnia” is taken from the famous “Chronicles of Narnia” series written by C. S. Lewis. Narnia is an imaginary land where children have fun and adventure and in the process learn great truths about themselves, the world they live in and their Creator. Narnia Christian Preschool and Early Childhood Centres are the Early Childhood facilities of St Philips Christian College and most centres cater for children from 0 to 5. The Centre’s proximity to St Philips Christian College Junior School benefits the Transition to School program by allowing easier access to school facilities as the year progresses. Children preparing for school become very familiar with the school environment before they begin Kindergarten with regular lessons and visits as part of the program. Narnia Prep Cessnock is a 40-place centre catering for children the year before Kindergarten (ages 4-5) in a uniquely Christian environment. A new 0-5 Centre is being purposefully built within the next few years. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to join our dedicated team. We are seeking a Director/ Early Childhood Teacher who thrives on providing a caring and nurturing environment for children. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Fulfil the role of Nominated Supervisor for Narnia Prep Cessnock Work according to the Education and Care Services National Regulations under the Children (Education and Care Services National Law Application) Act 2010 Ensure that Educators are informed of current issues Work according to the Code of Ethics of Early Childhood Australia, as adopted by Narnia Comply with the policies and procedures of Narnia Assist the smooth running of the centre in all areas of administrative procedures, curriculum development, parent and community liaison, staff professional development and training, and any other areas as the need arises Ensure the Area Director Narnia Early Learning is informed of any problem arising, which would affect the children or the smooth running of the centre including notifications to the NSW Department of Education (DEC) Assist the Executive Director and the Approved Provider to ensure compliance with Corporate Governance matters Leading the service through the Assessment and Rating process Manage recruitment processes and the employment relationship in consultation with the Area Director Narnia Early Learning Ensure effective use of Information T echnology Promote open communication between Management and staff Leadtheprofessionaldevelopmentandtrainingprogram Facilitate the successful implementation of the National Quality Standard Plan ongoing improvements for Narnia via the Quality Improvement Plan Facilitate the successful implementation of the Early Years Learning Framework Develop an environment which supports inclusive practices Keep up to date with current developments in the Early Childhood field Resource the centre with appropriate equipment and ensure the team maintain it at a high standard Build effective networks with relevant community and government organizations Communicate through regular meetings with the Head of Junior School SPCC Liaise with Kindergarten staff regarding the transition to school program. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES CHILDREN Protect children and their rights Ensure each child is engaged and stimulated by each day at Narnia. Form relationships with children which are comforting and nurturing Develop an outstanding developmentally appropriate educational program Ensure that staff provide a supportive educational environment Ensure that the children are safe and adequately supervised at all times Ensure that all staff are aware of children’s additional needs/requirements Ensure a high standard of hygiene in compliance with procedures and policies Administer first aid or medication in compliance with procedures and policies Responsible for behaviour management of children leading to a safe environment for all including- -The development of individual child Behaviour management plans -Liaising with Inclusion Professionals & other support networks -Regular Communication with family/Support -Registration of Child Behaviour management plans into Inclusion Portal (SIP) STAFF Demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to contribute effectively to a team environment Support and supervise all centre staff and ensure daily organisation of staff Promote a healthy team environment and develop positive channels of communication to ensure a smooth running centre Lead, guide and support staff to plan, implement and evaluate programs suitable to the individual needs and interests of children Lead, guide and support staff to create a safe, supportive, stimulating and educational environment for the children Lead, guide and support staff to maintain ongoing records of the child’s development and daily information Participate in ongoing professional development and training programs and supervise staff through this process Convene and lead staff meetings, family meetings and management meetings as required For the Whole of Their Life PAGE 5
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES FAMILIES Develop and maintain positive relationships with families Share information with families relating to their child and the daily activities of the centre Create a safe, supportive and informative environment for families Act as a resource person for families Attend parent meetings as required Communicate effectively with parents to inform them of our program and practice ie information evenings etc Encourage families to participate in the life of the centre including sharing of skills, policy updates, social events ADMINISTRATION Ensure effective enrolment procedures and bookings Have a knowledge of child care subsidy and child related funding Manage the centre’s annual budget as it relates to the day to day running of the centre Monitor centre’s financial performance and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with centre’s financial plans Closely monitor utilisation rates and ensure vacancies are addressed immediately Prepare reports and attend meetings as directed including a Director’s monthly report for the Area Director Narnia Early Learning Be aware of and develop skills pertaining administrative functions within the centre WORK, HEALTH AND SAFETY AND INJURY MANAGEMENT Ensure polices and procedures are implemented as per the Work, Health and Safety Guidelines Investigate workplace hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented Ensure areas of responsibility comply with WHS legislation and injury management policies and procedures Provide a consultative process for communication of WHS information allowing employee input into WHS issues by keeping it as a monthly staff meeting agenda item Ensure staff are appropriately trained in WHS Monitor contractor performance within the centre Report WHS achievements and activities as required For the Whole of Their Life PAGE 5
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES CHILD PROTECTION Assist the Area Director Narnia Early Learning to comply with child protection in the workplace – responding to allegations of reportable conduct against employees Inform the Area Director Narnia Early Learning of all allegations or convictions of a child protection nature against an employee, of which you become aware Ensure the recruitment process includes the compliance with the Working with Children Check Guidelines Ensure compliance as a mandatory reporter, which requires reporting to DEC, where there is reasonable grounds to suspect that a child is a risk of harm COMMUNITY Manage information which assists families to access resources within our community Be an advocate for high quality services for children in our community Build social capital by promoting our community participation in decision making Manage experiences with children which promote awareness of our community and the wider community Encourage a global perspective of Community and our place in this Ensure students on placement are effectively supervised Encourage the Narnia community in supporting our sponsor child Promote Narnia in the wider community through social media, website and community involvement. Encourage reconciliation within the Centre and lead the outworking of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Promote an inclusive culture Promote sustainable practices. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA The ideal candidate will possess the following professional and person abilities, attributes and experience: Degree in Early Childhood Education Have the ability to lead a team of educators First Aid Certificate Have a sound knowledge of the NSW Children’s Services Regulations, NQS and EYLF ChildProtectionQualification Have an ACECQA approved first aid certificate Previous Director or management experience (HOTAID004/012) Working with Children Check Have an ACECQA approved child protection certificate (CHCPRT001) Teacher Accreditation (NESA) (if applicable) Be fully COVID 19 vaccinated Have strong communication skills Have an understanding and passion for inquiry- based learning The Way, The Truth, The Life PAGE 7
Conditions of Employment It is anticipated that the Director Narnia Prep Cessnock, will be in a position to commence full time responsibilities from the beginning of 2022 Salary on appointment will depend upon qualifications and experience. Applicants must agree to and be supportive of the Staff Code of Conduct as on the employment section of the SPCC website Applicants must have a current NSW clearance to work with children (WWCC) Conditions of employment will be on parity with the Independent Schools NSW (Teaching Award) Multi- Enterprise Agreement 2017 Additional Information Staff are required to actively participate in consultation and communication with supervisors and management regarding health, safety and wellbeing issues and comply with all provisions of the relevant workplace health and safety legislation and related health, safety and wellbeing responsibilities and procedures, as well as all current Child Protection laws.
