Hi there, We are just days away from the 2021 Taupo Marathon and we’d like to extend a huge thanks to you for joining us this Saturday. Whether you’re taking on the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, 5km or kids dash, we know you’re going to have an awesome time and love all that this iconic Taupo event has to offer. IMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION Please take 5 minutes to read through the information below to ensure you have everything you need to know ahead of event day. All additional information can be found at www.taupomarathon.co.nz COVID-19 PROCEDURES We are in the very fortunate position of being able to deliver this event under “normal” conditions. With that said there are few things to be aware of as we continue to put on events with the ever- present danger of COVID-19. 1. If you have any symptoms or are awaiting a COVID-19 test, please DO NOT ATTEND the event. Symptom information can be found at https://covid19.govt.nz/health-and-wellbeing/about-covid- 19/covid-19-symptoms/ 2.There will be a contract tracing QR code posters to scan on arrival so that you can register your attendance. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT FOR SPECTATORS. 3.Regularly clean your hands with sanitiser or soap and water. There will be a hand sanitizer station at every aid station and in various locations around the event base. Please use these as required. 4. Your attendance information will be collected for the purpose of contact tracing and may be disclosed to the Ministry of Health should the need arise. PARKING The normal Saturday time limits on street parking in town will be in place, however, there are several free off-street public car parks where you can park for the duration of the event, stress free. Keep an eye out for the Blue 'P' signs. All day parking locations are: • 68 Te Heuheu St (behind BP) • 14 Taniwha St (beside Rebel Sport) • 72 Robert St (beside Burger King) • 67 Tuwharetoa St (beside Central Motor Group)
PRE-EVENT REGISTRATION The pre-event event registration and sponsor expo will be located at the Great Lake Centre, Tongariro St. This will take place at the following times: Friday 30th July Saturday 31st July 4:00pm to 9:00pm for all entrants. 6.00am to 9.30am for all entrants. Your number can be collected by friends or family, just make sure you arrange to meet up prior to the start. If you have purchased merchandise online, then this will be available for pick up at these times. Online entry closes at 12pm Thursday 29th July. Friends and family wanting to enter after this time can do so at the Great Lake Centre during the times listed above. START TIMES Note: 15mins before each start (20mins for 5km participants) there will be a compulsory event briefing at the main stage at event base, please make sure you are present. After the briefing all participants will walk over to Redoubt St for the start. Start area — Redoubt St, next to the tennis courts. Your time will be taken as you cross the start line, please seed yourself appropriately at the start. 7:30am: Marathon runners followed by walkers 9:00am: Half Marathon runners followed by walkers 9:50am: 10km Runners 9:55am: 5km Runners followed by 10km and 5km walkers 12:00pm: Kids Dash – Briefing for this will be at the start line at the entrance to Riverside Park right before the start BAG DROP For those who would like to leave gear at the event base, the bag storage area is open from 7am on Saturday in the Great Lake Centre. Follow signage from Tongariro Domain into the bag drop area. COURSES Road closures Please be aware that there are several road closures and detours in place for the event. The map below shows closures and restrictions as well as times they will be in place. Please plan your journey accordingly.
Course Maps To see detailed course maps and descriptions including aid station locations, what will be available, as well as toilet locations see https://www.taupomarathon.co.nz/marathon Reusable Cups There will be no disposable cups at aid stations. Our aid stations will be equipped to refill water bottles/bladders and reusable cups. If you haven't already got one, you can purchase one of our nifty silicone collapsible cups for $5.00 at registration. Mother Nature will appreciate your efforts. SPOT PRIZES AND PRIZEGIVING We have a huge selection of minor spot prizes that will be given out over the finish line at random. Major spot prizes will be drawn at random at the 3pm prizegiving on Saturday on the Tongariro Domain. You must be present at prize giving with your race bib/number to claim a major spot prize. POST EVENT Entertainment There will be live music from Dan Sharp at the event base throughout the day, so put your feet up and enjoy some great tunes once you have finished! We will have a bouncy castle set up for the kids. Parents, please supervise your kids while using it. Refreshments Each participant who is of age can come and enjoy an ice cold beer or cider thanks to our amazing sponsor SPEIGHT’S. Just head over to the Speights beer garden and tell the lovely staff what you would like. At the finish line aid station we will have Nuun Hydration, water and VISTA sparkling water available. Keeping with tradition we will also have a classic chocolate fish for each participant.
Food On the Tongariro Domain this year we will have Lake Taupo Hospice doing a BBQ fundraiser. They will have an assortment of BBQ goodness on offer to fix the ‘hanger’ after your event. We want to raise as much as we can for this amazing organization so, please come prepared with CASH and support them however you can! Joining them on the Domain will be the crew from Hearty as Dumplings, a local crowd pleaser with the best dumplings in the business. As well as the Coffee Chic making sure you get that all important caffeine fix and Mr Whippy for the sweet tooths out there! You know you’ll deserve one after your efforts on course! We will have a soup kitchen set up in the Great Lake Centre where hot soup and buns are available free to all finishers. Recovery Massages will be available in the Great Lake Centre for a small fee. Showers are in the Super Loo adjacent to the Great Lake Centre. The official after match Join us for the official after match function at 2 Mile Bay Sailing Club, the best location in Taupo for wood fired pizzas, great drinks and Live music.
