This year we are including and supporting women working in the food and drink sector in Scotland and Women in Hospitality and Tourism and we are delighted to be able to support this important business sector for women. Delighted to collaborate with HIT Scotland for another year, a fantastic charity that gives the opportunity for the overall winner selected by the judges a HIT Scotland scholarship which can be for any level in business and it’s a fantastic way to augment your skills. WHY SUPPORT THE AWARDS? The aim of the awards is to help recognise and increase the number of women working in senior leadership roles across the visitor economy and supporting women working in hospitality, tourism, food and drink sectors in Scotland. We were looking to put the spotlight on women who had made an impact in their industry through innovation, best practice and delivering outstanding results. In the recent report compiled by Alison Rose the Deputy CEO, NatWest Holdings and CEO, Commercial & Private Banking: “I firmly believe that the disparity that exists between female and male entrepreneurs is unacceptable and holding the UK back. The unrealised potential for the UK economy is enormous. This is why I was pleased to accept the invitation from Robert Jenrick MP, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, to carry out this review into barriers to female entrepreneurship. We have a shared ambition to strengthen the UK’s position as one of the best places in the world for women to start and grow a business. Business has a significant part to play in making the UK the best place to start and scale a business regardless of gender. It is clear that tailored support from specialists who understand the different challenges that female business owners face, as well as the way they think and run their business, makes a real difference to success rates. Our ambition – through the implementation of the recommendations in this report and joined-up action from the private and public sectors – is to break down the barriers to achieving our aspiration and unlock the potential that exists within the UK economy. From our detailed research we believe the biggest opportunities to help female entrepreneurs fall in three areas: – Increasing the funding directed towards them; – Greater family care support; and, – Making entrepreneurship more accessible for women and increasing support locally, through relatable and accessible mentors and networks. Underpinning these challenges we have identified the key barriers that have an impact on female entrepreneurs and eight initiatives, as well as a number of other areas for further development, that will help women pursue their business aspirations, whether to start-up or scale-up.

WHY SHOULD MY BUSINESS GET INVOLVED? The impact of the award was truly phenomenal for all the team at Eusebis & myself. Much more than any award we have won, it was a great honour as it was voted by my peers in the industry. Refreshingly for the first time the BWS recognised women in the hospitality industry - the finest tribute to the generations of great women who built our business & all who work so hard in our business to strive for excellence. I was completely overwhelmed, and bursting with excitement when it was announced that I had been awarded the HIT Scholarship at the Women in Tourism Awards. A number of colleagues have benefited from the HIT bursaries, and the amazing development opportunities they offer. I am very much looking forward to jetting off to Lusanne in Switzerland where I hope to develop my understanding of the hospitality industry. Scooping both the Rising Star award, and the HIT scholarship all in one night, has given me an unforgettable experienced and confidence lift as I start my career. I am honoured to be shortlisted and deemed a worthy winner by the judging panel and fellow industry professional.
