IAEA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme Mikhail Chudakov IAEA Deputy Director General Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy GRULAC Meeting 17 September 2020
Why the IAEA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme? The number of women in the nuclear field globally is very low. While some disciplines might have greater representation of women, the fact is that for the most part, they are underrepresented. This is especially true in the higher professional positions.
Education for a healthy pipeline of nuclear professionals Only an environment, starting with the education system, in which women can thrive, develop and progress, will provide a healthy pipeline of professional women in the nuclear field and with time, more women in leadership positions.
Commitment to gender equality Committed to gender equality, the IAEA has been actively promoting the role of women in nuclear science and technology as well as the need to increase their participation in the nuclear sector, including through: • organizing various events to raise awareness and visibility on gender issues; • efforts to enhance the participation of women in meetings, trainings and projects; • working closely with Member States to identify qualified candidates for IAEA vacancies.

Grossi The goal of the Programme, launched in March 2020, is to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of women leaders in nuclear science and technology, nuclear safety and security, and non- proliferation. More women are needed in positions from which they can influence global developments in the nuclear field.
