Weekly training continues till end of september.
HSS Sailing Center season 2018 Web www.helsinkisailing.com/aikuispurjehdus Facebook www.facebook.com/hsssailingcenter E-mail sailingcenter@helsinkisailing.com Elliott Blue - intermediate In this group sailors concentrate on learning the basics of race sailing. Coached trainings take place once a week and teams may be fixed or changing - depending on sailors’ preferences. However, advisable is, that you consider building up your own team if you wish to progress in race sailing and aim for competitions during the season. Group starts at the beginning of May. Weekly training continues till end of september. Match Race Violet Match racing is a form of sailing where two boats compete against each other. It is really intense one-on-one sailing where excellent knowledge of the rules, good boat handling skills and seamless teamwork play a big role. Coached trainings are held once a week and match racing competitions (Center Cup’s, Match Race G5 or G4) are organized regularly throughout the season. In this group the teams are fixed, so you can either ask a group member for open spots in an existing team or if you already have match racing experience, you can gather a new team. Group starts at the beginning of May. Weekly training continues till end of september.

HSS Sailing Center season 2018 Web www.helsinkisailing.com/aikuispurjehdus Facebook www.facebook.com/hsssailingcenter E-mail sailingcenter@helsinkisailing.com Fleet Laser 16 Club owns nine L16 boats. Five metres in length with a 2m beam, the gel-coated glass fibre dinghy first appeared in 1986 under the 'Laser Weekend' tag which signalled the sort of family-and-friends market it was aimed at. A retractable 29.5kg metal centreboard makes a significant contribution to the overall 250kg hull weight and to the boat's feeling of solidity and stability. It has a sizeable watertight storage locker under the enclosed foredeck, accessible via a li ing hatch on the forward bulkhead. Buoyancy is built into the bow and enclosed side decks, while the cockpit is self-draining via holes in the full-height transom. Production of the Laser 16 ceased in the late 1990s but it is still very popular with families and day cruising aficionados, and can easily accommodate five adults. L16 have a jib, main sail and spinnaker. Elliot 6mr Club owns six Elliott 6mr boats. The Elliott 6m is an Olympic-class keelboat, designed by New Zealander, Greg Elliott. It was selected for the women's match racing event for the 2012 Olympics. The Elliott 6m carries a spinnaker pole and symmetric spinnaker which is considered more suitable for match racing. 3-4 persons can sail Elliott boat. SM40 / SWEDISH MATCH 40 We have two SM40’s in our use. Closely resembling a mini ACC boat, the SM40 was designed specifically for the World Match Racing Tour. SM40 carries 6-10 persons. Boat is designed bu Pelle Petterson and is 12.00m long.
HSS Sailing Center season 2018 Web www.helsinkisailing.com/aikuispurjehdus Facebook www.facebook.com/hsssailingcenter E-mail sailingcenter@helsinkisailing.com Skipper rights In order to sail outside the coached trainings, you need to have skipper rights. As a skipper you have the responsibility over the safety of your crew and the boat which means that you need to have certain level of experience for obtaining the rights. The skipper rights can be requested for all boat classes separately depending on your experience and interest. During the season you will gain more experience and will be able to request skipper rights and book a boat for self practice. Log into the booking system, select the boat class you wish to sail (and have skipper rights to) and browse to the training date. You can choose a time from 9-13, 13-17 or 17-21. Only skippers are able to book a boat, but crew members can then be added for the reservation. Sailing gear You don’t need any special gear to start sailing at HSS Sailing Center. For your own comfort, bring weather-proof clothing, proper shoes (e.g. trainers) and sailing gloves (gardening gloves with good grip is good option!). It would be good to have your own life jacket but there are also life jackets on the island that you can borrow in the beginning. In case you want to invest in own sailing clothing, feel free to ask other members for great tips on what and where to buy. There is few shops in Helsinki Lauttasaari and many good web stores, for example in England. Here few links: https://www.wetsuitoutlet.co.uk/ https://www.tridentuk.com/
